Gestational diabetes symptoms are the anticipatory chances and minor stages, following which the diagnosis of diabetes can be conducted by the pathologist. Gestational diabetes is a disease of increased amount of sugar in bloodstream in pregnant women during the middle phase of pregnancy till the delivery due to the anti-insulin production of progesterone, prolactin, cortisol, and estrogen secreted by the placenta for the development of the body. The symptoms of diabetes in women are common but misleading as they can be substituted with normal anxiety sufferings during pregnancy.

  • Vaginal infections: The decreased rate in the absorption and utilization of produced sugar increases the chances of vaginal infections in women. Yeast infection which is the outcome of dampness and moistness on the surface of skin along with sugary sweat and surface causes spread of this infection. The abundance of glucose in bloodstream results in the presence of sugar in urine. If care is not taken during the 24 to 28 weeks of pregnancy, the little droplets of sugary urine in the vagina can give rise to yeast or Candida infection. Candida is stimulated in a sugary base, mixed with the sweat and water of vagina which triggers the overgrowth of yeast infection. Intake of antibiotics during pregnancy is the primary cause of infection in vagina as these medicines kill the bacteria that control the growth of yeast on the surface of the body.
  • Sudden gain in body mass: Weight gain is the by-product of gestational diabetes. Rise in glucose in bloodstream decreases the metabolic rate, leads to the accumulation of fat layer around cell walls which hampers the utilization of glucose into energy. This results in the lethargic body and increased body weight.
  • Decrease of weight in some cases: One of the symptoms of gestational diabetes is that weight loss can take place in a short span of time. The wastage of glucose in the body results in functional destabilization which occurs due to the employment of proteins and carbohydrates stored in liver for emergency. The breakdown of proteins consumes abundant energy which results in hypoglycemia and reduced body appetite.
  • Increase in hunger: The catabolism of proteins and essential carbohydrates stored absorbs energy more than what is reduced which requires more proteins, carbohydrates and fats in the form of food, thus increasing the hunger of the expectant mother.
  • Increase in thirst: The over-utilization and frequent urination is obtrusive in normal kidney functioning. The incapability of body to retain water increases the thirst of pregnant women.

Gestational diabetes can be cured and prevented with the aid of medication, regular diagnosis and specific diet and exercise plan which is provided by a health book. For more information, nearest gynecologist should be consulted.
