Diabetes is a disease which is a product of rise in the glucose supplied by certain types of food items. The increase in the sugar in the body is affected by the consumption of the quantity and quality of food which is the primary cause of development of the disease except the hereditary factor. Selection of food items is necessary to keep a check on the disease. The diabetes foods to be avoided are:

White sugar: This is a refined sugar with a chemical composition, C12H22O11. This is obtained by the chemical refining of sugarcane or sugar beat extracting minerals and proteins from the juice. This form of sugar is converted to glucose with the metabolic order of the body. This is a complex sugar which is not easily digested by the stomach thus, increasing the glucose level in bloodstream. The research conducted by A.M.Cohen at Israel has proved the lethal effects of white sugar on the production of insulin hormone. The substitution can be done with quality sweeteners available in the market which provide low sugar calories. White sugar decreases the efficiency of body to assimilate glucose into bloodstream which raises blood sugar in the body. The following sugar types should be avoided:

  • Dextrose
  • Fructose
  • Glucose syrup
  • Granulated sugar
  • Brown sugar
  • Corn sugar
  • Lactose
  • Invert sugar
  • Honey and molasses.

Fats: The consumption of fats hampers the metabolic and digestive track of human body. The deposition of fats around the body cells decreases the glucose assimilation and absorption. The study at Colorado Health Science Center stated that the chance of diabetes gets tripled with the intake of fats. The consumption of saturated animal fat diet destroys the efficiency of insulin hormone in the body. However, fish oil is good for the body. The research at University of Sydney proved that excess of fats increases the resistance of insulin to the body cells. Foods to be avoided in fats:

  • Tropical oils
  • Palm oil
  • Cocoa butter
  • Meat and dairy products.

Wheat Flour: The refined and processed wheat flour deficient of minerals and vitamins is a serious health hazard for diabetics. The involuntary intake of alloxan through wheat flour initiates the damage of beta cells in the pancreatic gland with the aid of free radicals supplied by the derivatives of uric acid. This damages the DNA of beta cells obstructing the normal functioning of insulin hormone.

White Salt: Sodium chloride if consumed in small quantities balances the acid- base in the body by producing hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Large quantities of salt promote the retention of excess water in the body causing obesity which is the primary source of diabetes.

Meat and Meat products: These are the primary source of saturated fats which increases the level of glucose in the body. The flesh of animals should be strictly avoided as they are body waste which increases body resistance to glucose and spreads toxins in the body.

Foods which trigger diabetes should be avoided in order to lead a healthy life. A doctor or a health book should be consulted.
