Diabetes and vision are correlated, with the growth of the disease in a patient the impairment of vision increases. Diabetes is the result of the distortion in the functioning of insulin hormone secreted by the pancreatic gland. The trouble in the eyesight shoots up with the long term association of the subject with the disease. The diseases caused due to the affect of diabetes are:
Diabetes retinopathy: This is the most fatal disease triggered with the advent of diabetes in the body. The destination of this disease is blindness. This results from the damage caused in the tiny blood vessels of retina which is a light sensitive part of eye. Types of retinopathy are:
- Mild non-proliferative retinopathy: This is the early stage of the disease which is caused due to the swelling of the blood vessels in retina. Vision is undistinguished.
- Moderate non-proliferative retinopathy: Blockage in the blood vessels of retina.
- Proliferative retinopathy: This is the advanced stage of the disease, formation of new but under nourished blood vessels start in the retina. Leakage is their common tendency. Blurred vision and pain in eye is the outcome of this disease.
Maculopathy: This disease is the outcome of severe form of retinopathy which is caused due to the damage in the macula part of retina which destroys the central vision of the patient. This may cause trouble in reading and close examination. Colors are not distinguished in this disease. The progression of this disease may cause blindness.
Vitreous hemorrhage: The leakage of fluid in the blood onto the vitreous gel that fills the interior of eye blocks the passage of light which passes from this gel to retina. Formation of scar tissue and cloud in the exterior of the eye is the outcome of this disease.
Cataract: This is the condition which is the direct outcome of the cloud formation on the lens of the eye. Vision is blurred and hazy as this is vision sensitive area. If retinopathy has not damaged the eye, surgical removal is easily possible.
Secondary Glaucoma:This is the result of formation of a mazy structure of fragile blood vessels on the iris. This hampers the outcome of fluid from the eye. This causes complete impairment in vision. Treatment is available with laser surgery or diuretics can be used.
Double vision: This is the transient condition of diabetes which causes trouble in clear vision. The sight of objects is double along with pain in the eye.
The complications of diabetes and vision can be prevented in the early stage of the diseases development with medication, exercise and a strict diet control program. However, a doctor or a medical guide book should be consulted before resuming any of the natural treatment.
