Complications from diabetes result due to the rise in the level of glucose in bloodstream in response to the dysfunction caused in the production or absorption of insulin hormone by the beta cells of pancreatic gland. Primary complications:

- Gastroparesis: This is the disorder in the digestion of food and nutrients in the stomach. The delay in the digestion of food due to the damage caused to the muscles and vagus nerve causes gastroparesis. Diabetes increases the amount of glucose in blood which gradually affects the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the nerves which are damaged consequently. Heartburn, excruciating pain in the upper abdomen, fluctuation in glucose level, lack of appetite and vomiting are the symptoms of gastroparesis.
Secondary diseases caused due to diabetes:
- Erectile Dysfunction: It is a disorder of inability of men to keep erection high during intercourse. Impotence is the direct outcome of diabetes which reduces the sexual urge gradually in men.
- Reduction in the vaginal lubrication in women: Damage caused to the nerves in vagina can reduce sexual urge in women.
