Do you seem to be offered too much amount of mint? Do people turn aside when you are talking to them? Then it is better to take advice to cure your bad breath. Treating bad breath is necessary to keep your teeth healthy.

Common Causes of Bad Breath

Basically, breath odor comes from food elements entrapped in our mouths. When food remains in the mouth, it turns out to be a breeding ground for the bacteria that can cause bad breath. Other reasons can include bad oral health, inappropriate cleaning of dentures, disease as well as smoking & tobacco products. Bad breath can also be a sign of an underlying medical state of the stomach, lungs and bloodstream.

Other little known condition that can add to halitosis is xerostomia or dry mouth. When our mouth is dry, saliva production reduces, leaving the mouth’s natural ability to clean itself damaged. Saliva is like mouth’s natural mouthwash, which contains things that decrease bacteria in the mouth. Alcohol addiction, certain medications, breathing through the mouth instead of the nose or a salivary gland disorder can cause dry mouth.

Tips for Treating Bad Breath

  1. After each meal, brush your teeth and gargle your mouth cautiously to take out food particles from the mouth.
  2. While brushing your teeth, also brush your tongue. The tongue has thousands of small hairs that possibly trap bacteria.
  3. Go for regular check-ups with your dentist to cure gum disease and to correct any faulty reinstatement, leaking caps, etc. all of which can trap food in the mouth.
  4. Chew up sugarless gum or suck on sugarless tablets to help increasing the flow of saliva.
  5. Drink plenty of water, if your mouth is dry. Swoosh water around in your mouth for at least twenty seconds to loosen any food particles or bacteria.
  6. Avoid alcoholic breath mints and mouthwashes because instead of helping, they can make things worse. They only momentarily cover the smell and tend to make the mouth dry. These products create more favorable surroundings for bacteria.
  7. If you are going on a big date or an important meeting, don’t eat foods, such as onions or garlic that can cause bad breath.
  8. Stay away from alcohol and caffeine, which can dry the mouth.
  9. Quit smoking. Tar and nicotine possibly builds up on the surface of the teeth, tongue and cheeks. It can also dry the mouth and slow down saliva flow.
  10. Use a natural breath freshener. It is beneficial if it has leafy green vegetables.
  11. Few drops of peppermint or tea tree oil may be applied to the tongue or toothbrush to help freshen up your breath. In addition to its refreshing nature, their antibacterial properties will kill the bacteria in the mouth.
  12. Baking soda is an old medicine and being used to keep up better oral health and for fresh breath.
  13. Hydrogen peroxide is tending to kill many of the bacteria that can cause bad breath.
  14. Rinse your mouth with salt water to lessen bacteria in the mouth
