Problem of Receding Gums

 Problem of receding gums occurs when the gums and bone in the mouth start moving away from the tooth, resulting in some gap. Such problem usually occurs during old age. However, in many people it has been noticed at an earlier age also. There are different causes of receding gums like harsh brushing, age, gum disease, genetics, and infection.

Signs of Receding Gums

Dealing with this problem is possible only if certain signs are noticed and its causes are known. There are certain signs that you can start noticing soon after the problem occurs. The first sign is the tissue redness and bleeding that takes place even by applying little pressure. You will notice such sign for a long time and it can be cured only if its causes are treated. Other symptoms are as following:

  1. You will notice that teeth appear long as the gums recede back from the base of the tooth. This gives an impression of toothy smile. When the receding process takes place, pockets between the teeth become visible.
  2. You will also notice different colors of the teeth. It can be because of changes in the color between the cementum and enamel.
  3. More cavities can be noticed. It becomes easily visible.
  4. Your teeth become too sensitive to what you eat. Eating too hot or cold food affects the nerves by causing extreme pain that becomes unbearable.
  5. Gap between the teeth appears to be more. The truth is that space between the teeth remains the same, but the affected gums pull back because of which the spaces between the roots and the teeth appear more.
  6. The infection in the gums starts spreading resulting in bad breath

Causes of Receding Gums

There are different reasons that are responsible for making your gums recede which are the following:

·         Genes

Many people have been diagnosed with gum disease. According to research made, it has been noticed that 30% people are found with gum disease in spite of taking care of their teeth. Such disease occurs due to some problem in the genes.

·         Not Enough Dental Care

Many people fail to take care of their teeth because of which gum receding problem occurs. If regular flossing and brushing is not done on a daily basis, chances of plaque increases. If plaque is not treated on time, it can turn into calculus, which is a hard substance that can be eliminated only with professional dental cleaning.

·         Periodontal Diseases

Certain gum infection can easily damage tissues of your gums and result in problem of gum receding. This can destroy the support that your bone gets to hold the teeth in place. Gum disease is the main cause of gums to recede.

·         Cleaning Tooth Aggressively

It is necessary to consider the way you brush your teeth. If you brush your teeth in the wrong way or aggressively, enamel problem can occur because of which gums recede.

Treating Problem of Receding Gums

You are advised to brush your teeth at least twice every day. Go for the soft brush texture for your teeth, especially if you have sensitive teeth. To cure gums from receding, try not to apply much pressure on your teeth while cleaning as it causes damage to the tooth and gum line.

A proper diet is necessary at such point of time. Avoid acidic foods, sugary products, and starchy food as it causes gums to recede. In case you eat any such food product, immediately clean up your teeth for preventing the problem of plaque.

 

The best way to deal with the problem of receding gums is to have regular dental checkup. Your doctor can immediately diagnose the signs of such problem and start with the treatment immediately. By this way, your problem will not become severe.
