Orthodontia problems are basically the conditions related to the teeth. In children, these orthodontic problems are noticed as poor alignments of teeth which take place due to crowding of the upper front teeth in front of the lower teeth. It happens due to the lower jaw being shorter as compared to the upper jaw. The causes for protrusion of the upper jaw can vary and depend on the patient’s genetic growth patterns, tongue thrusting, thumb sucking and airway obstructions.

When these orthodontia problems take place in adults, it can be treated by correcting crowding teeth, closing the spaces between teeth and also by correcting the position as well as alignment of teeth. Adults also have gum or bone loss due to periodontal disease.

From this we can say that commonly occurring orthodontic conditions take place which involve the following problems:

  1. Overjet i.e. protruded front teeth
  2. Crowded teeth
  3. Underbite i.e. lower front teeth stick out beyond the upper teeth
  4. Deepbite i.e. upper front teeth coats the lower teeth
  5. Openbite i.e. upper and lower teeth don't assemble in the front
  6. In Crossbite, the upper jaw is very narrow, as a result lower jaw swings to one side allowing the teeth to engage
  7. Spacing in missing teeth or presence of small teeth

Important Aspects of Orthodontia Problems

  1. According to The American Association of Orthodontists, it is said that at the age of seven, it is very important to do the child's initial orthodontic evaluation.
  2. Children or adults should have a recent cleaning and checkup with the dentist before planning for an orthodontic evaluation.
  3. Keep in mind that the main goal of evaluating orthodontic problem is to make a healthy, well-functioning jaw.
  4. Commonly known orthodontic problems, as stated by patients are buck teeth, tiger teeth, crooked teeth, Dracula teeth, squirrel teeth, Rabbit teeth, etc.
  5. Orthodontic problem can be classified on the basis of the following things. Sometimes, these problems are present as a combination of one or more of the following types:

·         Crowding

·         Proclination

·         Spacing

·         Deep bite

Crowding

·         This is known to be a condition where the teeth are not arranged in a proper curve.

·         This can happen if the size of the jaw is insufficient to lodge all the teeth

·         This can be treated by making teeth into a proper position with the help of fixed or removable braces.

Proclination

·         In this case, the upper teeth project far away from the lower teeth

·         The treatment of this problem varies from patient to patient and in some cases removal of teeth is necessary.

Spacing

·         In this problem, there are spaces in between the teeth. It can happen between the front two teeth or all the front teeth.

·         The treatment for this is planned thorough study and analysis of each case

·         Many times, permanent retention is given to the patient with this problem

Deep Bite

·         In this case, the upper front teeth are covered more than the lower front teeth.

·         In extreme cases of these problems, surgery of the jaws is needed

In this way, now we are familiar with the orthodontia problems and its solutions.
