You should try to avoid foods that cause tooth stain. Your smile doesn’t look beautiful with stains on the tooth. In order to keep teeth in a good condition and free from stains, you should avoid few food items. It is important to take good care of teeth. Apart from brushing your teeth regularly, you should also avoid some eatables that are harmful for your dental health. After bleaching and whitening treatment, you should completely stop eating some food items as the teeth become more absorbent. Here we are taking a look at some food and beverages which are not good for your dental health:
- Tea: Even if it is the most efficient anti oxidant for your body, it makes stains on your teeth. There are various varieties of tea. Some blends are more dark and rich in color. They tend to mark their presence behind your teeth. On the other hand, some varieties are very light in color. They can be less harmful to your teeth. So avoid darker tea blends like English Breakfast and Earl Grey. You can try green tea or herbal tea instead. They do not affect your teeth.
- Black Coffee: If you can’t start your morning without having a cup of coffee, then it’s better to change your habit. The reason is your teeth absorb food particles and liquids easily. Black coffee can leave behind very bold stain marks that you don’t want to see. If you cannot avoid it, add some milk to your coffee to make it little lighter.
- Tomato Sauce: If you are having pasta or spaghetti, tomato sauce is a must for you. But tomato sauce stains your teeth very badly. To avoid this, you just need to have an appetizer of spinach or broccoli before it. These vegetables contain a certain material which creates a thin film around your teeth. This film protects your teeth from staining.
- Sweet: Generally, all sweet products contain coloring agents which easily stain your teeth. Candies, chewing gum, and other sweets, which make your tongue colorful, will surely stain your teeth. Sweets play a minor role in staining your teeth unless consumed regularly.
- Red Wine: Red wine is acidic in nature and contains chromo gens, tannins which cause tooth stain. Studies show that white wine is bad for teeth too, though it helps to prevent gum diseases. It is better to avoid wines in order to prevent tooth stain.
- Aerated Drinks: Aerated soft drinks are also acidic in nature with chromo gens in it. They also contain lot of sugar. All these materials cause teeth stain. Even light colored soft drinks are responsible for these stains. These soft drinks are carbonated which is really harmful for teeth. Acid affects the layer of enamel over teeth and sugar material leads to tooth decay. Sport drinks are also not safe for dental health as they contain teeth decaying materials.
- Berries: Berries like blueberries, blackberries, cranberries and other fruits like cherries, grapes, pomegranates etc., which have rich colors in them, cause tooth stain. Juices made up of these fruits also cause stains on your tooth. It is better to swirl water around your mouth after having these fruits or juices.
- Beet: Beet has very concentrated color and surely leaves behind its marks after consumption. The only way to get rid of beet stains is to brush teeth regularly.
- Spicy Food: The food that has incredible amount of spices in it (especially Indian cuisine) gives you stains on the teeth. The food with lot of spices and oil gives you stains on tooth. It is better to brush your teeth after such meals.
Foods that give tooth stain include all the above food items. It is not possible to take out these items from your food list, so it is better to keep your teeth clean after every meal.
