Most of your dental problems could be prevented if you stick to a proper dental hygiene routine. You don’t need to visit any dentist unnecessarily if you follow this routine. You could save a lot of time and some money which would otherwise have been spent on cosmetic dentistry procedures. Maintaining dental hygiene after eating meat is very important as meat is usually hard to chew and gets stuck in the teeth if not removed immediately.
A healthy diet plays an important role in your dental health as it plays on your overall health. If you don’t stick to a healthy diet, you might be risking the health of your teeth and problems such as tooth decay and gingivitis. Bacteria are the ones who reside in your mouth and are responsible for tooth decay. They get their food when you eat anything especially meat. As they like starch and sugar excess, consumption of sugary and starchy products could add to your tooth decay.
This could later turn considerably worse and could even affect the born structure on which the teeth are resting. If you have the habit of having multiple servings of food particularly meat at regular intervals without proper cleaning, then the damage could be worse then what you think.
Eating Meat
Eating meat is what many people like particularly in their daily diet, but poses problems as it’s hard to chew and could loosen the bands surrounding the molars. Chewy meat could stick in the braces (if you are wearing them). Consuming meat from the bone such as in chicken wings and ribs could even pop your bracket sending you to the dentist. Dental hygiene after eating meat becomes all the more important as it could have severe effects at times, if you don’t clean your mouth immediately. As a precaution, you could also select lean tender meat in bite size pieces and always remove them from the bone before eating.
Instructions for Dental Hygiene
- Maintain a high level of oral hygiene all the time. In addition to brushing twice a day, you should clean in between your teeth using toothpicks, dental floss, rubber tips especially after eating meat.
- Use a tongue cleaner and clean straight to the back of the tongue
- Use of mouthwash which doesn’t contain dyes or alcohol before bed is advised as opposed to the morning.
- Drink plenty of fluids and avoid too much coffee and alcohol
- Clean your mouth regularly after eating meat, fish and dairy products
- You are recommended to chew sugar free xylitol gum to promote saliva particularly if your mouth feels dry.
- Eat fibrous vegetables and fresh food and visit your dentist regularly and have your teeth professionally cleaned as required.
Dental hygiene after eating meat is very important as most orthodontists recommend brushing immediately after it with fluoride toothpaste and cautiously removing any meat that might have lodged in between your teeth. If you are undergoing any orthodontic treatment, make sure that your diet remains healthy.
