Caring for dental bridge

Even your best fitting bridge will have some gaps around and beneath it. Debris gets accumulated in these gaps and cause further damage if you do not follow strict hygiene regime. You have to pay special attention to any false teeth that forms the bridge.  You will have to clean and floss your teeth regularly to prevent any infection. You will have to take extra care to the supporting teeth present at either side of the bridge as these are important for the support of the bridge.

Brush

Brush your teeth after eating and before bed time with a soft toothbrush. You should take care to clean the area where the bridge meets the gum line. This area harbors a lot of harmful bacteria that cause decay and gum disease. You can use an electric tooth brush over a manual one.

Choosing a tooth brush

Choosing a correct tooth brush is very important for dental care.

  1. Choose a soft bristled tooth brush as hard bristles can cause gingival recession. Soft bristles are flexible, can clean beneath the gingival margin and prevent any damage to your gums.
  2. Head should be small for effective cleaning as it can reach all areas of your teeth.

Floss

You should floss at least once every day. You can use the proxy brush, floss threader or automatic flosser. Flossing removes plaque and other food particles around your dental bridge and maintains oral hygiene. While cleaning dental bridge, you should clean under as well as around the bridge. Alternatively you can use super floss as it has a stiff end

Water pik

You can use water pik with your antibacterial, alcohol free mouthwash to clean the gums and under the bridge.

Fluoride rinse

You have to use fluoride rinse before you go to bed. Swish the fluoride rinse forcefully in your mouth for at least one minute. Avoid swallowing the rinse and do not eat or drink anything after rinse. You can eat after 30 minutes.
