Brushing your teeth should be a fixed part of your daily grooming habit. Choosing the right toothpaste is important for taking care of your teeth. There are different options available in the market and so it is very hard to select the right toothpaste. Mostly, all of us choose toothpaste simply based on the effectiveness of its advertisement. This is very bad. Let us focus on how to choose the right toothpaste.
It is very important that your toothpaste should contain fluoride. Toothpastes with fluoride effectively help to remove plaque and cavities. Some toothpaste has pyrophosphates to avoid the soft calculus deposits on teeth. Sometimes, toothpastes have whitening formulas that remove stains and make your teeth brighter. Let us focus on the aspects of choosing the right toothpaste
1. For sensitive teeth, always use desensitizing toothpaste. It contains key ingredients like potassium nitrate or strontium chloride. These components protect the tubules connected to the nerves.
2. If you want toothpaste that controls tartar, always look for sodium pyrophosphate containing toothpaste. But keep in mind that extended use of this may increase sensitivity of teeth.
3. You can also use any antimicrobial toothpaste which contains triclosan as an antibacterial agent. Triclosan helps to remove bacteria causing gum disease.
4. If you choose baking soda containing toothpastes, the only benefit is that it will give you a fresh feeling in the mouth.
5. Gum care toothpastes are also available in the market, but are a bit questionable concerning their effectiveness. They are made up of stannous fluoride and not of normal sodium fluorides. It is known that stannous fluoride helps to prevent gingivitis, but it can’t protect your teeth against cavities.
6. Toothpaste, which is known as dentifrice, is usually made up of 20% abrasive, 75% humectants and water, 2% pH buffers, 2% foaming and flavoring agents, 1.5% coloring agents, 24% fluoride, binders, and pacifiers. Brushing your teeth with this type of toothpaste definitely helps in complete removal of plaque, promoting re-mineralization, resisting decay, removing teeth stains, cleaning and polishing teeth along with freshening breath.
From all this we can say that, we can use fluoride toothpastes twice daily with soft brushes. Make sure that you are brushing your teeth with toothpaste for at least 2 minutes to get proper results. It is very important to use only ADA approved toothpastes. These types of toothpastes are tested for their safety. As we have only one set of teeth for a lifetime, it’s our duty to take good care of them.
So now you can analyze which kind of toothpaste suits you. If we think which toothpastes is more effective, gels or pastes? Keep in mind that both are effective enough. If you are confused about your teeth type and its need, don’t hesitate to meet your family dentist who can guide you properly on this issue.
