Experts all over the world are researching on why babies cry at night. There are number of factors that can result into crying at night. The possible factors are listed as below:
· Signals
Crying means the baby needs something. You have to find out the reason behind the crying which includes the following possibilities.
· Hunger
Babies do feel hungry at regular or specific intervals. As a result we can say that hunger is the main cause for the babies who cry at night.
· Sucking
Most of the babies have habit of sucking, so there may be times when your baby may not want the bottle or breast to drink milk, but to suck at night.
If you think this can be the case, offer your baby a dummy nipple. That can solve the problem of baby’s night cry.
· Needing to be Held
Sometimes, the baby cries at night because he/she wants to be held close to someone. Carrying your baby is probably the best solution for this.
· Boredom
Sometimes the baby won't sleep if he/she is not tired, and in this situation he/she may cry because of boredom. In this case, play with your baby.
· Tiredness
Day’s excitement and stimulation can sometimes overtire your baby, making him/her bad-tempered and unable to sleep.
· Thirst
Babies may cry at night because of thirst. This happens especially in hot weather or in a very warm room. In this case, give a little cool, boiled water to your baby in a bottle or by using a spoon.
· Wet or Dirty Nappies
These bother some babies more than other things. This can also be the cause of their cry. Change wet or dirty nappies at any time of the night. This will prevent your baby from nappy rash, which can make him/her cry overnight
· Too Hot or Cold
Sometimes babies can feel hot or cold, just as older children and adults and this always results in their crying at night. To avoid this, the baby’s sleeping room should be neither too hot nor too cold i.e. somewhere around 18°C (65°F).
· Colic
Colic in babies is also a main reason for their excessive crying at night. It normally begins around two weeks of age. Babies may have colic because of allergy to cow’s milk protein, and in this case, it is better to avoid it from their diet. This may help to stop their cry at night.
· Illness
If your baby is frequently crying at night, you need to be sure that whether he/she is having any illness. The common illnesses that babies have include temperature, runny nose, vomiting or diarrhea.
· Relationship with Mother and Father
Last but not the least, keep in mind that the mother's mood and feelings affect how much her baby cries. If mother is feeling low, depressed, anxious, and exhausted and has relationship problems with her husband, their babies are more likely to cry excessively in the night. Study in Sweden found that those fathers who described child's birth as upsetting or distressing had babies who cried excessively at night.
These are the very common reasons that make babies cry at night. This can be prevented by taking proper care of your baby.
