Signs of Poor Vision in Kids

We can easily observe the signs of poor vision in kids if we know something about a healthy eye. Keep in mind that healthy eyes and vision are a very important part of your child’s development. So it is essential to examine the eyes on a regular basis, so as to detect the vision problems or eye diseases if present in the early stage. 

 

Normally, a child starts recognizing the mother by the age of 6-8 weeks. If he / she has a poor vision in both the eyes, then it would be very hard for him/her to recognize the mother or else, he/she may not react to the visual stimuli.

If your child has poor vision, it is very difficult to notice it. Hence, it is very important to take guidance of the doctor. Sometimes, it is possible that the cause of poor vision may be appearing as whiteness of the cornea or in some cases, whiteness behind the pupil. The poor vision can be noticed easily by the doctor’s examination or during vision screening in school. 

There are many causes of signs of poor vision in kids. They are listed as below:

 

 

 

According to this, we can conclude that there can be many causes for poor vision in a child. Some can be cured very simply while others are difficult to manage and sometimes, it becomes life threatening. Therefore, it is very important to contact an ophthalmologist who can follow many special tests available to determine the visual acuity of children. It is possible that if poor vision is not treated, this can lead to condition of amblyopia or lazy eye or in some cases may lead to tumor formation. 

 

Sometimes, poor vision signs can take place due to eye infection which can spread from one to another and hence, should be treated as soon as possible.

 

Signs of Poor Vision in Kids

 

According to studies of The American Optometric Association, it is stated that one should schedule the eye exams 6 months, 3 years and before the child enters school. Warning signs of poor vision in kids are:

 

·         Squinting

·         Closing, covering one eye

·         Holding a book close

·         Losing the place while reading

·         Headache, nausea or dizziness

·         Extreme ineptness

·         Tilting head to one side

·         Frequent day dreaming

·         Using a finger as a place-mark

·         Performing below his / her potential

·         Rubbing eyes frequently

 

If you notice any of the above symptoms, take your child for an eye examination.

 

Today, there are many children who are diagnosed with high eye grades. It is very important to control poor eyesight in children as their future highly depends on their vision. Keep in mind that our kids are the most precious gift from God, so it is extremely important to control the signs of poor vision in kids that can help them to have a good and clear eye sight.
