A sty is an acute infection of the secretor glands of the eyelids. This ordinary infection results from blocked glands within the eyelid. When the gland is blocked, the oil produced by the gland irregularly backs up and forcefully pushes through the wall of the gland. That forms a bump, which can be painful, red and nodular.
Often, germs can infect the blocked gland, causing increased swelling, pain and reddishness of the eye and even reddishness of the nearby eyelid and cheek tissue. ‘Hordeolum’ is the medical term for sty.
Causes of Eye Sty
Sty is a normal contagion. It is caused by infectivity in the oil producing- sebaceous or sweat glands in the eyelid. The infection is usually caused by ‘Staphylococcus aureus’ germs. Even though styes are naturally sore, red, tender and swollen, they are not risky to your vision. Styes generally burst on their own and then within a few days, heal on their own too. In order to stop further infection or spreading, it is essential that a sty should be left to burst on its own.
How to Get Rid of a Sty?
· Take away any make up that you have applied on your eye
· Take a cup of warm water and add some salt to it. Rinse your eye with this solution. To ensure that the solution does not fall on your face or clothes, it is better if you put a towel below your face.
· Put a tea bag in a hot water for at least three minutes. When the boiled tea bag is cooled and you can touch the bag, place that tea bag in your affected areas/eyes and leave it for fifteen minutes.
· Clean your eyes again with salt water. Just tap your eyes smoothly to dry them. Rubbing your eye is very harmful and it can worsen the infection. Do the steps 1 to 3, three times daily if possible.
· If tea bags are not accessible, put a warm compress to your eyes, four times every day.
· Use a capable action for your all night use. You may have the simmered tea bag for that. Cover up the tea bag with a medicinal tape or under an eye mask to avoid it from leaking and falling.
· You may also use an herbal eye wash to help get rid of your sty. You will take 1 cup of boiling water and pour over 2 tbsp. of dried raspberry leaves. Let it soak for 15 minutes and then twist. You will use this as a warm eye cleaner a number of times every day until the sty is gone.
· Warm compresses and tea bags are the main materials to stop a sty. Tea bags leave a material called tannins which is antiseptic and astringent in nature that can help in curing bacteria caused infectivity. The tannins promote drawing out of infectivity from the eye.
To manage sty infection in the eye, use a liquid solution of turmeric powder and water. To arrange this decoction, boil a teaspoon of turmeric powder in two cups of water and use it when the quantity of water reduces to half.
Most styes cure on their own and can clear up within two weeks. Make sure there are no particles left. Use this accepted antibiotic home remedy as eye drops to treat this irritating eye problem.
