One of the technologies used every day in cafeterias, restaurants, kitchens, homes, and lounges is the microwave oven. Many scientists claim about health hazards of microwave oven from exposure to radiation leakage. Even though proper safety measures are already installed with proper maintenance, certain precautions are required to be followed.
Health Hazards of Microwave Oven
- If an individual gets exposed to high level radiation of microwave, the body absorbs the energy produced. Like food, this energy gets converted into heat in the body. It affects the sensitive parts of the body like brain, heart, and eyes. These organs find it difficult to get rid of the excess heat which the radiation gives. The effect of such radiation can be long term, especially, if it has occurred to the brain or eye. The heat of the radiation comes with high power densities that become unbearable for sensitive areas of the body.
- As per research made, the food cooked with the help of microwave oven is not always healthy. Person eating such food has high chances of suffering from severe molecular damage. This damage leads to abnormal changes in immune systems and blood. So far this problem has occurred in 1 out of 50 people using microwave oven.
- Some scientists state that radiation of microwave contains emitters of radiation. Emitters are an electric current that runs from the oven. There are two types of radiation that microwave emits: the high frequency radio wave and the magnetic fields. Both these radiations are highly dangerous if exposed for a long term. Such radiation comes from transformers located at the back. The easy source for such radiations to come out is the over door. Magnetic fields can occur from any side of the oven. Such radiations can easily target children who love to watch food cooking inside.
- The radiation also contributes in making cancer-causing substances, destroying nutrients, and leakage of toxic chemicals from the food packaging. It increases the chances of formation of cancerous cells in the blood. Problem of digestive disorder was also noticed among few people. It has been observed that the rate of stomach cancer has increased because of these harmful radiations.
- People using microwave oven for a long time were diagnosed with trace-mineral which cause cancer cells. The reason behind formation of such cancer cells is the ingestion of microwave food that makes such cell active within the serum of the blood. The food which gets cooked in the microwave destroys the elemental food substance, because of which the problem in the digestive system begins.
- There are many biological effects caused by radiations of microwave oven. It is noticed that people who work in microwave fields had problems of eye strain, sleep disturbance, headaches, dizziness, and problem of fatigue. When research was made on all these signs, it was noticed that the radiations of the microwave oven affect the central nervous system of the body. These effects can be long term or short term depending on the immunity system of the body. Many scientists have labeled such effects as "non-thermal" interactions which are cause due to long term exposure to low levels of electromagnetic fields.
With the usage of microwave oven, the availability of vitamin in the food decreases. Vitamins like E, B, C and other essential minerals get destroyed. In green leafy vegetables substances like glucosides, nitrilosides, galactosides, and alkaloids play an important role in health improvement. When you put such vegetables in the oven, all these substances are damaged.
Even though ovens are safe to use, there are many health hazards of microwave oven that can be life threatening. It is necessary for you to take precautions with regards to potential exposure to microwave radiation.
