The prevention of eye defects is a very vital subject, especially for parents. As several eye problems develop in childhood, kid’s eye care is of ultimate importance. At what age must you begin to watch out for eye troubles in your kids and prevent them is a major question which stands out in front of the parents. Defective vision grows out of faulty habits. The time to begin, thus, is the moment at which the child first begins to see objects around him/her.

There are some eye health guidelines for kids that are laid out and needs to be followed if you want to take care of their eyes. It’s the bright colored objects hung in a child’s crib above the level of his/her eyes as a bribe which lay the foundation for much of the muscular imbalance which later causes refractive errors and eyestrain.

The child stares at the immobile object and acquires the habit of staring while the little muscles on the eyeball become fixed instead of flexible. In childhood, too, the derivative child is surrounded by well-meaning adults who, in order to amuse him make overstated faces with their eyes wide and staring, an attitude which he unconsciously adopts.

Kids eye care must surely include dealing with cross eyes. Cross-eyes frequently make their first appearance in childhood, the condition often exists soon after birth  sand the unfocused parents either neglect the condition, hoping that it will clear up as time goes on, have the eyes operated upon, which results in a constant pull and nerve tension, or put glasses on the young kid.

When Should Children see an Eye Doctor?

  • A doctor should examine the child if they have blocked tear duct, red eye, discharge, wondering eye, cross eyes, or strabismus. The newborn’s eyes must be examined if there is lively venereal disease during vaginal delivery. Infants who are born prematurely must have their eyes checked.
  • The child must be seen by the time they are one year old if there is family history of eye patching, crossed eye, lazy eye, eye surgery in children, or glasses at 2years old. The kids must have their eyes checked by the time they are 3 to 5 years old if there is no family history of the above problems.
  • If a child is complaining of not being able to see the blackboard, blurred vision, having to sit close to the blackboard to see, have trouble in reading, eye strain or headaches while reading.

Proper diet is vital for eye health. Lack of any necessary food has its effect in the long run upon weight, energy and our capacity to throw off or guard against disease.

Every parent who wants to guard and protect his/her child's health has to be alert to see that the proper vitamins and calories, the right amount of milk, greens, vegetables and fruits appear in the kid’s daily food.

It is worth pointing out, nevertheless, that while all these things are necessary for the growth and building of a healthy body, Vitamin A is mainly important to the health of the eyes. Going through eye health care guidelines for kids could also be very useful.
