Ear wax is a product of the ear which helps to protect the skin of the ear from water or infection. Ear wax is in the form of wax gland. Different people have different quantity of ear wax. Here are some important ear wax cleaning tips for the persons who have large amount of ear wax.

Ear Wax Cleaning Tips

  • Irrigation is a standard method of ear wax cleaning. About 150,000 ears are irrigated each week in US. Though irrigation is a conventional method of ear wax cleaning, it can have some disadvantages. For example, when there is a gap under the wax, irrigation may force water and wax into the middle ear and this can cause nidus for infection. Some doctors recommend placing 1 or 2 drops of Vosol, Domeboro or Cortisporin otic in the irrigated ear to avoid infection. Irrigation should not be used in ears with perforations.
  • Sometimes, water jet devices used for dental care can also be used for ear wax removal.
  • You can also use The Welch Allyn Ear Wash System which can irrigate and suctions out water and wax in very first step.
  • There are various types of over the counter drops available in the market for cleaning ear wax. All these drops contain water, oil and peroxide solutions. Some of the drops contain ordinary water, 3% hydrogen peroxide, 10% sodium bicarbonate, 2% acetic acid, and a combination of 0.5% aluminum acetate and .03% benzethonium chloride. This is the best over the counter drops for cleaning small to moderate amounts of wax.
  • You can use oil-based organic solutions such as glycerin, olive oil, propylene glycol, and others for cleaning ear wax.
  • Some solutions are enzyme based. There are some preparations which are specifically intended to dissolve ear wax, so you can use it for ear wax cleaning. These are as follows:

1.       Cerumenex Ear Drops

2.       Murine Ear drops

These preparations contain salt water which is very effective.

  • There are drops of Dermotic which are basically a mixture of oil and steroids. They can also be used for ear wax cleaning and to cure itchy ears. They are not useful for ear wax per se.
  •  If you ignore the ear wax, it can become a worse life-altering health problem. There are many remedies used to maintain healthy and clean ear canals. The treatment for ear wax includes:

Pressurized Water: Doctor may use pressurized water to fill the ear canal followed by forcing debris to the surface for removal.

Microscope: If the wax is deeply situated in the canal, an experienced doctor may use a microscope to remove the wax.

Wire Loop: A doctor can use a small, fine-wire loop to the outer ear wax cleaning.

Light Suction Vacuum: There is also a tiny vacuum which eliminates the debris through the use of light suction.

Keep in mind that there are commercial ear care kits available in the market which you can use for cleaning wax. These ear wax tips will definitely provide you a solution for removing the wax.
