Diet for Hypotension

 Hypotension is a disorder of heart where there is a decrease in normal blood pressure. All patients require specific diet for hypotension which is very important for their healthy life. It is known that normal blood pressure of human body is around 120/80 mmHg. Patients with hypotension have low blood pressure and it differs for every individual. Condition of low blood pressure i.e. hypotension occurs when the blood pressure drops to the normal level. Before knowing about the diet, it is important to know the following aspects of hypotension.

Important Aspects of Hypotension

·         This causes fainting, dizziness, thirst, depression, lack of concentration, fatigue, blurred vision and nausea along with breathing problems.

·         It must be not ignored as underlying condition of it can cause more serious health complication.

·         A sudden drop in blood pressure can lead to heart, neurological as well as endocrine disorders.

·         The organs of the body during hypotension can be deprived of necessary nutrients and oxygen. This is very harmful for the body.

·         This condition can be easily cured by making some specific dietary adjustments.

·         Diet plan for hypotension often involves bringing up the salt intake of the individual. 

·         It is very important to understand that hypotension for one person can be normal for the other.

·         As a result, the reference range of hypotension can be measured as blood pressure lower than 90/60. Here 90 is known to be the systolic (higher) and 60 is the diastolic (lower) value. 

Causes of Hypotension

There are many causes that can form hypotension, out of this diet related causes of hypotension are listed as below:

·         Sodium deficiency

·         Taking small quantities of meals with low carbohydrates

·         Dehydration caused by low water intake

·         Malnutrition due to inappropriate nutritional supplements and proper dietary advice

·         Intake of alcohol and narcotic drugs

·         Gradual movements during sitting or standing

·         Prolonged standing

Diet for Hypotension

As discussed earlier, there must be a requirement of dietary changes so as to improve the conditions of the patient. As hypotension can affect for a long term, it is important to make changes in your diet by consulting a medical professional. Important dietary changes are listed as below:

Stay Hydrated

 

It is possible that dehydration has ability to reduce fluid that is pumped through the body. So drink at least 6-8 glasses of water per day. In addition to this, you can also take sports drinks which contain nutrients such as sodium and potassium. Once you feel thirsty, dehydration of the body starts so it is best to drink water throughout the day. Along with this, alcohol consumption can dehydrate the body, so limit alcohol intake.



Add Salt to Foods

 

Salt causes retention of fluid in the body. This can help to increase blood pressure in the patients of hypotension. It is important to take a well-balanced diet which is rich in fruits, low-fat dairy and vegetables, whole grains, etc. Adding a tablespoon of natural soya sauce to meals can also boost the salt level of your body by 1,200 mg.  Besides this, add dry soup mixes to your diet, which have high sodium content. You can also consult your doctor to known about the daily intake level for salt based on your health.

 

Along with this, take a diet of small meals at a time and reduce fat intake. This diet for hypotension will definitely solve the problem.
