If your fingers get chapped when the weather gets chilly, you know how sore and infuriating it could be. It’s then a sure sign of dry, cracked hands. Once your skin dries out, it’s hard to get it back. Follow these tips to prevent dryness of hands and you could surely see the difference soon.
Tips to Prevent Dryness of Hands
- Restrict the amount of time your hands are exposed to water. Of course, you must wash your hands, but try to do it as quick (but still effectively) as possible. Moreover, it would be a good idea to avoid long showers.
- When you do wash your hands and shower, never use sweltering hot water. This could irritate the skin even further and draw out any moisture you have left in your skin. Use lukewarm water instead.
- Always wear gloves inside and out. Wear rubber gloves when you’re washing dishes as this is the best way to protect your hands as they won’t come in contact with the water. When you are outside, even for a short time, it’s a good idea to wear winter gloves. You could protect your hands from getting wind burn and extreme cold which could lead to cracking and excessive dryness.
- Keep your hands moisturized and instantly lather up with moisturizer after washing your hands. Be kind as if your hands are seriously chapped or if your skin seems to get irritated, you might need to get a moisturizer without any type of fragrance or chemicals.
- Skin, particularly hands, gets dried out and chapped during winter for two reasons: there’s less humidity in the air and the heat is turned on reducing the moisture in your skin. This means you need to keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Keeping your fluid intake up would help to prevent your skin from drying out.
Olive and Lemon Oil
Mixing olive and lemon oil together would produce silky effects on the hands. To begin, fill up a bowl with warm water. Take a few drops of lemon juice, blend well with a few drops of olive oil, and then mix both oils into the bowl of water. Soak both hands in the mixture for at least 5 minutes and then remove and let your hands dry.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal works very well by removing dead skin cells from hands and in turn leaving them softer and smoother. Just take one cup of uncooked oatmeal and empty it into a blender. Mix the oatmeal till it turns into a fine powdery substance. Pour the oatmeal into a large bowl and then put both hands into the bowl. Rub both hands all over the oatmeal powder, wait for a few minutes and then rinse with cool water. Ensure that you use the old fashioned oatmeal and not the instant kind.
If you follow these tips to prevent dryness of hands, you could protect your hands and the skin on the whole to a great extent from the harsh winter.
