The real need for make up actually starts at the age of 40. As women age, their face undergo several changes & thus the need to change their make up styles too. Older women need to create a casual but classy make up. At this stage, more than looking beautiful, make up becomes a way to flaunt the class & hide the signs of ageing. Make up at this age must serve two purposes- first it should add color to pale skin & secondly it should conceal minor flaws and wrinkles. It’s important to understand that subtlety is the key to bring out natural mature beauty.  Here are few simple techniques to look your best irrespective of your age:-

FACE make up: To start with the face, cleanse the skin first, then use a vitamin packed moisturizer, now use a good foundation primer. Next step is the application of foundation; experts recommend the use of only liquid or cream foundations, preferably one chock full of antioxidants & moisture. It’s best to use a sheer or medium weight foundation. It reflects light & helps in covering up blemishes. You can use a non frosted powder below the chin to hide the saggy neck.  Concealer should have a yellow or golden undertone to counteract under eye dark circles & hide flaws & blemishes. Finish up the base using a translucent powder. To attain a youthful appearance, apply peachy pink blush to the apples of cheeks. A deeper shade & a little sheen may even lighten up your eyes but try to avoid glittery shades.

EYE make up:  A crease proof, yellow based eye shadow primer is applied; thereafter try a medium eye shadow with a touch of shimmer, then use a mid toned color in the crease. Avoid dark shades & powder shadows since they settle into fine lines around the eyes. Alternatively, a cream colored shimmery shadow can be used to highlight under the arch of the eyebrow & the inside corners of the eyes. Regarding the eyeliners, its best to use pencil liners on top lid since liquid liners tend to bleed & also it is advisable to skip lining the lower lid. As we age, our eyebrows may become sparse & even the color of the eyebrows fade away. So, it becomes all the more important to remove all the fair hairs on the brow bone. Then, give them a definition with a powder, pencil or gel that is similar to your natural hair color. Thereafter, brush them with an eyebrow brush to soften the color. Curler can be used to curl the lashes & widen your eyes. Use mascara judiciously & creatively on upper eyelashes to add volume, but its better to avoid bottom lashes.

LIPS make up:  It’s a must to keep your lips moisturized well, so use a lip balm regularly. You can drop the traditional lip liner pencil, since it gives an impression of a harsh lining around the lips. Apply tube lipstick & then using a lip brush define the edges gently by blending the color into the edges of your lips. This keeps the lipstick intact for longer hours & prevents any bleeding or feathering of lip color around the lips. Regarding the selection of the lip color, it’s better to use lighter shades & be careful not to accentuate the lower corners of the mouth. Also try to avoid heavy lip glosses with pearly appearances. Real lip colors stay longer, look better & add grace to your face.

At this stage lesser is better. Therefore, careful selection & application of make up can enhance any older women’s beauty.
