Is it safe to do hair coloring during pregnancy? This is the most common question that comes in the mind of pregnant women. It is very important to consult your obstetrician about any treatment of hair you are planning for. According to studies of Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it is not clear about the effects of hair color chemicals on a developing fetus, but it is always best to play it safe.

Before you think of hair coloring during pregnancy, here are some important tips that will increase your knowledge

Wait out the First Trimester

Most of the doctors and colorists suggest not to undergo any chemical processes during the first three months of your pregnancy. It is only for safety reasons. It is possible that hair may change its color during pregnancy naturally. Some women get more gray hair, or others may find change in their hair texture.

Avoid Processes that Involve Scalp Contact

While coloring your hair, make sure that the solution does not touch your scalp. This is important to prevent absorption of chemicals directly into the bloodstream.

Try Temporary Color

Besides playing with chemicals, you can also use a hair mascara wand or a hair pencil to get the same results of hair colors.

Opt for Highlights

This process of highlighting involves painting of the hair with permanent color which contains only peroxide and ammonia. However, avoid touching the scalp or skin to avoid the negative effects.

Use of Vegetable Dye

You can also use vegetable dye that is safe during pregnancy.

Hair Color Replacement

You can also replace the technique of color dying by root touch-ups.

Conquering Curls

You can also prefer to keep your curls intact rather than apply color on them. Just apply a light-hold gel to keep frizzes in check.

Go Low-Maintenance.

Very few women have the time to come for regular cuts while taking care of a baby. So many stylists recommend longer styles instead of coloring hair which can be pulled back in a chic ponytail.

Henna is a Good Option

You can also use henna which is a completely natural product. So you can use henna colors for your hair in pregnancy. Henna has no chemicals in it and is known to be perfectly safe for the baby. If you like the color imparted by henna, then this is the best option for you.

Wear Gloves

If you are coloring your hair using henna by yourself at home, keep in mind to wear gloves. Do wash off all the color after the necessary time. Do not keep it for a longer time than required.

In this way, we can conclude that the best way to have a healthy and strong baby is to avoid contact with hair coloring chemicals while being pregnant. Though there is no strong evidence against the effects of coloring, it is best to avoid hair coloring during pregnancy.
