Our eyes are the most sensitive sense organs & so is the area under the eyes which is richly supplied with blood & blood capillaries. These capillaries may swell up and become darker. This swelling is a result of fluid collection when our eyes are constrained most probably either due to lack of sleep or working at computers for long hours or for any other reason. This swelling only results in puffiness, casting shadows below the eyes, adding to perceived discoloration. Thus the name dark circles or we often remark it as puffiness under the eyes too.
Causes of under eye dark circles:
Nasal congestion is considered to be the main cause of under eye dark circles. Other probable factors responsible for under eye circles are heredity, allergies, sun damage, vitamin deficiency etc. But if you have suddenly developed under eye `bags’ then the reasons could be different such as kidney infection, poor circulation of blood or broken blood vessels. The reason could be allergy as well if you’ve consumed some highly processed food for the first time or if you’ve tried a new beauty product such as under eye cream or mascara.
Lastly, ageing is a definite reason for the appearance of these under eye dark circles since as we age the layer of fat underneath the eyes thickens with time & gives an illusion of dark circles.
How to get rid of under eye dark circle:
Until now you would’ve figured out the reason for dark circles under your beautiful eyes, but even if you haven’t, try out the following:-
1) Relieve stress- If you are leading a typical busy life- staying up till late, getting up early, working hard & partying harder, dark circles will definitely appear. Try not to over exhaust yourself & take at least 7-8 hours of sleep regularly. You’ll definitely find the change in few days.
2) Increase water intake & reduce salt intake- Staying well hydrated is a must, so drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. Also, reduce the amount of salt & alcohol since too much salt can make your body retain water & may lead to those dark circles & alcohol dehydrates your body.
3) Healthy balanced diet- Eat a healthy balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals & antioxidants. Take a vitamin supplement if required.
4) Identify allergic agents- With the help of a dermatologist, find out the source of your allergy since dark circles may be a result of some allergic agent- food allergy, cosmetic allergy, seasonal or environmental allergy. Your doctor will recommend you proper medicine to treat your condition.
5) Treat your skin- There are overnight facial masks available that help in reducing puffiness or discoloration. Apply an eye cream containing vitamin K & retinol on daily basis; these also help in reducing puffing & discoloration.
6) Home remedies- You can try out following home remedies: - a) cucumber mask- The natural cooling powers of the fruit will soothe & rejuvenate the tender skin under your eyes.
b) chamomile- Keep two moist green or chamomile tea bags in the fridge overnight & apply them directly on your eyes.
c) You can even use ice cubes wrapped in soft clothes or cotton pads dipped in cold water & keep them over your eyes for soothing effect.
7) Concealer- If nothing else works, a concealer may help you out by alleviating a tired look. Using a yellow toned concealer will camouflage blue or purplish hues on the skin.
By using the above methods, you can easily get rid of dark circles.
