Determining the face shape: To determine the shape of your face, pull your hair back or tie them up in a ponytail. Standing in front of a mirror trace the outline of your face on the mirror with a lipstick. After determining your face shape, you can easily thing of a suitable hairstyle for yourself. Below are a few tips for facial structure & hairstyle:-
1. Oval shape face- An oval face is slightly wider at the cheekbones than the forehead & tapers slightly at the jaw line towards the chin, with a gently rounded hairline. The oval face is the most adaptable & versatile face. It can pull off almost any hairstyle- short, long, straight or wavy. For a flattering look, choose a hairstyle that accentuates your best features. If you want to focus your beautiful eyes, try side swept bangs or blunt hairstyles. If you want to show off your chin, consider an angular bob hairstyle. Other hairstyles for oval face are- bangs, sophisticated bobs, long hairs with parting, shoulder length curls etc.
2. Round shape face- A face without sharp angles having fuller look & a round chin with wider, fuller cheeks. Main goal is to minimize the appearance of roundness. Try wispy & tapered ends and soft graduated layers since they make your face look slimmer. Bangs are worth trying but keep them long or side swept. Layered shag can also be tried out. For short hairs, close sideburn wisps, soften the face.
3. Square shape face- A square face has a wide forehead & strong, wide jaw line & hairline. Your hairstyle should soften the square look of your face. Short to medium length haircuts, soft wispy bangs & waves or curls will balance out a straight face. For straight hairs, a body wave may be considered. Side parting or adding height at the crown will elongate your symmetrical face.
4. Heart shape face- A heart shaped face is widest at the temples & has a pointed, narrow chin. Draw attention to your eyes & cheekbones by opting for a side swept bangs, brow grazing fringe, a strong part & hair that falls below your jaw line. If you’ve short hairs, keep the top layers soft & long but if you have long hairs, opt for long, wavy layers.
5. Pear shape face- This facial shape has a narrow forehead & wide jaw line with a round chin. The layered look or classic shag is best for a pear shaped face. Your hair should be wide & full at the forehead & temples. Curls around the temples will soften the face.
6. Diamond shape face- Face is wider at cheekbones & narrow equally at the forehead & jaw line. Add fringe & volume to the forehead and the chin while smooth hair complements the cheekbones better. To add width to the face, brush your hair across the forehead with a side parting. You can also try asymmetric haircuts with curls & waves.
7. Rectangular or long shape face- The face is long & slender, with fore head & below cheeks about the same width. Best hairstyles include short to medium lengths with fullness at the sides & soft wispy bangs. You can also try out layered styles since they add softness to the straight lines of the face.
