Do it Yourself Manicure Tips

Here are some do it yourself manicure tips that are easy to follow and very effective.

  1. Remove: Thoroughly remove your old nail polish. This can be done by using an acetone polish remover on a cotton ball. Remember not to use a tissue to remove the nail polish. It doesn’t absorb the remover well.
  2. Trim: As per your choice, cut and file your nails. Try to file your nails in one direction and avoid using a seesaw motion. As far as shaping of nails is concerned there are two options rounded or square. Both gives a good look and neither form will chip or break off. Square shaped nails are generally preferred as it is in trend.
  3.  Soak: Take a bowl of warm water and rest your hands in it for 10 to 15 minutes. To soften nails, add few drops of your favorite liquid soap in the warm water. Be sure that the water is not too hot or else it will dry your hands and nails.
  4. Soften: To soften and nourish rough spots, apply lotion or cuticle oil on dry hands.
  5. Push Back Cuticles: Push back cuticles by using a Popsicle or a cuticle stick. This is done so that cuticle doesn’t come in the way of the polish. There are some people who prefer to cut their cuticles for aesthetic purposes. But it is suggested not to try this at home unless you are a professional. This is quite difficult and you may end up with cuts all along the sides of your nails.
  6. Scrub: Use a body scrub to exfoliate your hands. You can also use a homemade mixture of olive oil and raw sugar or kosher salt for scrubbing. After scrubbing your hands for 4 to 5 minutes, wash it thoroughly.
  7. Moisturize: Dry your hands and apply a good amount of moisturizer. Massage it well for 2 to 3 minutes.
  8. Polish: First apply a base coat and allow it to dry. Then apply two thin coats of polish for deep color. Finish your do it yourself manicure by applying a top coat of clear polish.

These do it yourself manicure tips are really helpful for women who are quite busy and don’t have time to visit a nail salon too often. This also helps in cutting down the cost that is charged in such salons. By using these tips, you can pamper your hands at home.
