According to fashion expert, Coco Chanel, “Fashion is architecture; it is a matter of proportions”. Well said, since even if you’re wearing fashionable clothes & they are not according to your body proportions, you can never look your best. One of the basic requirements to look good is to wear trendy fitting clothes that enhance your persona & flatter your figure positively reflecting your best features. But very few people buy clothes that are meant for their body shape. Knowing your body type is the first step to find clothes that flatter you. There are five body types & each body type has its own fashion dos & don’ts. Here come fashion tips & tricks for each body shape:-

1)      Hour glass figure- This body type is the most desired & envied shape. Women with lots of curves, a well defined waist with proportionate hips & shoulders and shapely legs possess an hourglass figure. Women with an hourglass figure can wear almost anything. Your goal should be to buy clothes that accentuate your curves by drawing attention to your waist. Only things you need to avoid are baggy clothes, straight jackets & straight legged jeans.

2)      Pear body shape- Women with pear body shape have a slender neck & shoulders, small to medium bust, a curvy behind & hips & fuller thighs. You need to buy clothes which give an illusion of a larger bust & wider shoulders and give your lower part a slimmer look. Coordinate light & dark colors; lighter ones for the upper half while darker ones for lower half. Choose clothes with wide neck lines like v-neck, square or round neck or scooped neck tops. Halter tops, tops with puffy sleeves or frills in front are best since they give an appearance of wide shoulders & larger bust.

3)      Apple body shape- Women with an apple shaped body has a larger upper torso. These women possess full face, neck, and bust, large waist while the lower part i.e. hips & back are narrow & shapely legs. You can try out tops with comfortable fit like tunics or tank tops along with a fitted jacket. The best shirts are wrap tops & v-necklines. Long jackets/coats or long dresses with belts also help in slenderizing the waist area. Another good choice could be A-line designs or knee length with fitting formal tops. Avoid clingy tops or fancy fabrics.

4)      Rectangle body shape- This body type has very little curve & are considered athletic or skinny. A rectangle body looks straight up & down & often has small bust size. The goal should be to add some curves & give a feminine look. Try flowing blouses with ruffles or peasant style tops with gypsy skirts. You can also try out full dresses, full skirts & especially layered clothing. For bottoms, choose boot cut & wider legged styles to show off your muscular legs.

5)      Petite body shape- Petite women have a short height & a small frame to match. They need simple clothes that fit well & make them appear a bit longer. Shirts with vertical lines will solve the purpose. Tops with     u-neck or v-neckline are best for them. They should opt for straight legged pants or knee length fitting skirts to create an illusion of a taller frame. Avoid heavy fabrics, short skirts & broad belts.

Hopefully, your next shopping trip would be fun & useful, now that you know what clothes to buy for your body shape.
