Allergy induced asthma is one of the most common forms of asthma which many people come across. Normally, when you are exposed to an allergen, the body reacts by producing histamines. This histamine in turn causes a heavy swelling and brings a terribly scratchy feeling. However, in case of asthmatic patients, their lungs are dysfunctional; the patient may suffer an asthma attack. This type of asthma is known as an allergy induced asthma.
In the recent years, the incidences of allergy-induced asthma have grown geometrically, and at the same time scientist are not quite sure about the reason. They suspect that the main reason would be the increased exposure to common allergens.
The people and children living in the inner city are at a higher risk of having an allergy-induced asthma. Crowding is one of the biggest risk factors for the presence of the common household pets like cockroaches, and rodents. The dropping wastes by these creatures are the common cause of allergens in children, which result in the allergy induced asthma.
Diagnosis for the Allergy Induced Asthma
There are several different ways to diagnose the allergy induces asthma in adults as well as children. Since children always find it difficult to follow instructions, doctors diagnose the disease with the help of medical history, family medical history, and a bronchodilator.
In the case of adults, asthma is diagnosed in the normal way. The tests include breathing test and Spiro meter to find out the acuteness of the disease. Further allergy induced test is confirmed through an allergen test. It would be very helpful if the person suffering from the induced asthma has an idea about the types of allergy they suffer from.
Treatments of Allergy Induced Asthma
Happening news about this type of asthma is that this type of asthma is not acute and normally it can be treated easily by removing the person from the allergy area or removing the allergen from the presence of the person. In order to keep the house free from any type of allergen, one should pay attention towards the mattress and pillows where the person or the children’s sleep.
A few of the triggers that one should take care of are pollen, dust mites, mold, dander from pets, cockroaches , cigarette smoke, sudden cold air, exercise, and sudden excitement. Allergy induced asthma treatment includes the medication prescribed by the doctor, whether it would inhaler, nebulizers or the oral medications.
Following are some of the ways, which aid in the treatment of allergy-induced asthma
- Corticosteroids (prednisone) will help in treating both the allergies and asthma. This will directly attack and minimize the inflammation. Another medication such as leukotriene modifier works as a singuliar.
- Typically, the allergies are treated with antihistamines, which keep the airwaves clear and prevent the runny nose. It is very important treatment since, lining of the nose and throat are at the trigger for the asthma.
