What Is Allergy Headache and Treatment

Since long people are trying to establish a correlation between headache and allergy. Can headache be caused by allergy? If yes then what is allergy headache and treatment? The truth is that after years of observation it can be concluded that headaches can be caused by allergies. A close observation reveals that directly or indirectly allergies can cause pain in the head.

Allergy headache and its treatment is a burning issue because headaches can make our day-to-day life difficult. For all of us who have experienced frequent headaches we know how difficult it is to bear that pain and still carry on with our lives. An allergy headache can be mild or severe; can last for a few hours or a couple of days. Each person has a different experience when it comes to allergy headaches.

It is very important to differentiate between an allergy headache and migraine. In migraine the headache is generally localized in one part of the head and is accompanied by nausea and vomiting in some cases. On the other hand an allergy headache occurs due to eating some food which has an allergen, due to sinusitis, or due to some seasonal allergy. It is really difficult to differentiate between the two types of headache because both are triggered suddenly and due to specific reasons. Only a doctor can tell what is allergy headache and treatment.

It is also important to note that while allergy headache and migraine are different, an allergy headache can develop into migraine. So the two headaches are correlated sometimes.

Allergy headaches can occur due to the following reasons:

Seasonal allergy headaches: People who are allergic to pollen develop seasonal allergies like hey fever, cold, stuffy nose, sinusitis. These problems can in turn cause headache which is known as seasonal allergy headache.  Sinusitis headache is the most common form of seasonal allergy headache.

Food allergy headache: Headache is a very common symptom of food allergy. If your body is allergic to a certain type of food then it can trigger a headache in you. The best way is to identify the food that causes headache and avoid that food.

Chemical allergy: Many foods have chemical contents like monosodium glutamate, tyramine, artificial sweetener (asparatame), etc also cause allergy in some people triggering bad headaches.

Only through diagnostic tests you can ascertain the cause for your headache. In case the doctor feels he can recommend a skin prick test to know what allergen is causing allergy headache in your case.

Treatment for allergy headache

While there is no treatment to permanently do away with allergy headache, it can definitely be controlled and cured faster. Here a few tips to treat an allergy headache:

Once the reason for the allergy headache is know it becomes simple to treat the problem. For example sinus headache can be treated by curing the sinus infection with the help of antibiotics. Temporary headache relief is also possible with the help of pain killers.

Many people go for head massage with ayurvedic oils that are good for curing pain. Aroma therapy is also a popular method of curing headache.  However, the best way to avoid allergy headache is to avoid the food or condition that causes headache.
