Over 50 million people in USA suffer from one or more allergies. Allergy is growing like an epidemic all over the world and every year more and more people are becoming victim. Allergy sufferers keep exploring what are allergy cures. There are many ways to cure allergy but is it possible to cure allergy all together.

What is allergy?

Allergy is caused by abnormal reaction of our immune system. When our body comes in contact with allergens our immune system produces histamine in large quantities. The excessive production of histamine in the body causes allergic symptoms.

The most common factors causing allergy are certain foods, or specific environmental conditions. Common foods that cause allergy are – milk, wheat, nut/peanut, tomato, monosodium glucomate, egg, and so on. Environmental conditions that cause allergy are sun, moisture laden atmosphere, dust in the air, pet dander, etc.

What are allergy symptoms?

Different kinds of allergens cause different symptoms. More or less all kinds of allergies affect three major systems of our body – respiratory, skin, and gastro. Common symptoms of skin allergy are – rashes, hives, inflammation, itching, and redness. If the respiratory system is affected then a person might experience wheezing, chest congestion, excessive sneezing, stuffy nose, hey fever, runny nose, watery eyes, sinus, asthma, and so on. When gastro gets affected then a person can suffer from indigestion, vomiting, nausea, lose motion, stomach ache, etc.

If any of these symptoms occur after you consume a specific food, or in a particular environmental condition then it can be suspected as an allergy.

How is allergy diagnosed?

There are various diagnostic tests to diagnose allergy. If you experience allergic symptoms again and again, you must record the symptoms and visit your doctor for consultation. If the doctor feels that you need an allergy test he will send you to an allergist for further tests. Allergy tests are of two kinds – Skin test and Blood test. The allergist will ask you a set of question to asses your problem and depending on that he will advise the type of test that you should go for. If the test results are positive then your doctor will tell you what allergy cures are.

What are the possible ways to cure allergy?

  1. Natural Remedies: There are a number of herbs that are believed to cure or soothe allergic symptoms. Some of these herbs are as follows:
    • Stinging Nettle: This herbal plant is a natural anti histamine and controls the production of histamine in our body. Histamine is a chemical that is responsible for causing allergic symptoms.
    • Butter Bur: This is another herbal plant that has anti histamine properties. However this herb is available only in European countries. It is not safe to consume this without medical advice as it can cause a reaction in some cases.
  1. Medication: There is rarely any medicine for permanently curing the allergic reaction. However, medicines are available for lessening the effect of allergic reaction. Some of the common medicines are:
    • Antihistamines: Antihistamine is a common medicine for allergy. It counters the effect of histamines in body and thus helps in controlling allergy symptoms. Antihistamines are available in the form of oral pills, nasal sprays, and eye drops.
    • Epinephrine: This is also an antihistamine but used to treat in severe conditions like anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is a severe symptom of allergy and can be life threatening also. Epinephrine can be injected for immediate relief.
  1. Nutritional Supplement: Nutritional supplements in the form of Vitamin B5, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Anti oxidants, can reduce the occurrence of allergy like symptoms in the body. The supplements help in improving our immunity system and thus keep the allergies at bay. Research has proven that prolonged use of these supplements can cure allergy.
  1. Prevention: Prevention is the best medicine. The most ideal way to cure allergy is to prevent the allergens. For example if a particular food like egg is causing allergy like symptoms then avoid egg in all forms. If dust mite is the cause for allergy then keep your surroundings clean and wear nose mask at the time of cleaning.

What is allergy cure depends on the type of allergy you have. Consultation with the doctor and diagnostic tests can help you determine the best cure for your allergy.
