How to Prevent Dust Allergy

There is no doubt that all of us keep our house clean and free of dust. In spite of taking good care of our houses some of us or our family member suffers from dust allergies. The question is how to prevent dust allergy.
About 60 million people in USA suffer from one or more allergies. Out of this a considerable number of patients are sensitive to dust mites. Dust mites are microscopic substance in the air that causes allergy in some people and also lead to asthma in certain cases.
Dust mite allergy symptoms are very much similar as the allergy caused by pollen or mold. The only difference is that while pollen or mold allergy is seasonal, dust mite allergy can occur round the year. The common symptoms of dust mite allergy are:

- Dust mites stick to your body, cloth, or an object and get transferred from one place to another.
You can’t do much when outdoors. It is difficult to avoid dust in an external environment, but we can do a lot to protect ourselves from dust mites at home.
Tips on how to prevent dust allergy:
- Use vacuum cleaner to clean sofa, carpet, bed, curtain, mattress, and other upholstery at home. Vacuum cleaner goes deep inside the fabric and sucks out the dust mites.
- There are varieties of dust mite covers available in market. These dust mite covers are mad of plastic or both plastic and cloth. You can put these covers on bed, pillow, and mattress to avoid dust settlement on your bed. Many people have shown a significant improvement in dust allergy by using this product.
- To keep your sleeping place free of dust mite, wash the bed sheets, pillow, and blankets every week with 60 – 100 degree hot water. Only the hot water can ensure killing the dust mites in your bedding.
- To protect the kids from dust mite allergy wash the toys and objects that the child frequently uses with hot water every 2-3 days. Chose all stuffed toys that are washable. Stuffed toys with lot of fur attract more dust and mites.
- It is better to use leather sofa and furniture as compared to cloth covers. Dust mites are easier to clean from leather furniture.
- Use vertical blinds on windows as compared to curtains and drapes. Anything made of cloth attracts lot of dust and retain mites for longer time.
