How to Know Allergy Symptoms and Cures?

 Our body responds to any invaders like dust mites, pollens, food allergy, insect venom, dust, allergy asthma, etc. In this case, your immune system is triggered and there is a hypersensitivity reaction. This response to harmless substances called allergens is caller allergy or allergic reaction.

The reaction to allergens may include one or several symptoms. In some rare cases, the allergic reaction may be life threatening also known as Anaphylaxis. Many people die of this reaction, especially Anaphylaxis due to penicillin and insects.

Most of the allergic reactions are less serious and are sometimes unpredictable. The type of reaction depends on the person and vary accordingly. Many a times, your allergic reaction is unique to you. Your body may be allergic to milk or other foods from repeated exposure to it.

Certain foods, medicines, rubber, asprin, shell fish, sea food, poison ivy are well known allergins

Penicillin, peanuts, bee stings, fire stings may cause serious reactions and involve the whole body

Other specific allergins can be identified only when you have had a similar reaction in the past. Also, if you have one trigger, you may have other triggers as well.

You are more likely to have allergic reaction if you have the following.

1.    Certain medical condition Severe allergic reaction in the past

2.    Asthma

3.    Lung conditions that affect breathing ( chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)

4.    Nasal polyps and frequent infections to sinus, ears, respiratory tract

5.    Sensitive skin

 Allergy symptoms may look and feel different depending upon the body part involved. Some allergic reactions may involve many areas of your body. Others may just affect one area or a certain part of your body. Reaction to same allergen may vary with different individual.

Anaphylaxis is the word used for combinations of allergic symptoms and potentially life threatening. Symptoms of Anaphylaxis are as follows.

During Shock, the organs in your body do not get enough blood because of the dangerously low blood pressure. You may be Pale, Red, Sweaty, Dry, Confused, Unconscious

1.    Breathing is difficult or noisy

2.    Drastic and sudden drop in blood pressure

3.    Skin: redness, blisters, itching, redness, swelling, crusting, rash, eruptions, hives

4.    Lungs: tightness, wheezing, cough, shortness of breath

5.    Head: swelling of face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, headache

6.    Nose: stuffy, runny nose, sneezing

7.    Eyes: red, itchy, swollen or watery

8.    Stomach: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain

Home remedies and medication

1.    Prevention is the best way to cure any allergy. Avoid foods that trigger your allergy

2.    Use anti-inflammatory steroid based cream for external infection

3.    For localized skin reaction use cold, wet cloth or ice

4.    Anaphylaxis require therapy like IV fluids to boost BP, artificial supply of oxygen, etc

5.    Your doctor will prescribe you some long lasting medication in cases of long term allergies like hay fever, dust allergy

6.    Allergy shots are given to people with persistent and disruptive allergy symptoms

7.    Use all medications and prescriptions only as instructed

8.    Allergic specialist may help you to recognize your triggers with the help of several tests
