Fruits that Cause Allergy

As we all know, fruits are known for their benefits to the human body. They are very necessary part of today’s trend of healthy eating. Many people prefer eating fresh fruits to maintain their lifestyle. Besides this, there are some fruits that cause allergy to human body. Some fruits that can prove to be allergic to your body include cherries, kiwis, apricots, bananas, peaches, pineapples, melons, papayas, plums, strawberries, etc.
Important Aspect of Fruits that Cause Allergy
· Oral allergy syndrome is the most common symptom that is caused by allergic reactions in the mouth and throat after eating fruit.
· There can be evidence of itching, tingling, and swelling in the mouth, tongue, throat, lips, and palate.
· Watery, itchy eyes and a runny nose with sneezing can also be the main symptom of this syndrome of fruit allergy.
· Some people also get hay fever, especially spring hay fever due to birch pollen, and also summer hay fever because of ragweed pollen in the fruits. This can develop into allergic reactions when they eat cross-reactive fruits such as strawberries, apples, kiwis, pears, plums, peaches, cherries, papaya, nectarines, and pineapples.
· Other symptoms of fruit allergy are pruritis, urticaria, allergic rhinitis, contact dermatitis, and asthma.
· Sometimes, handling of fresh fruits while peeling or touching the juice to the lips may result into rashes, itching or swelling.
· Apples and oranges activate asthma in some people
· More severe symptoms of fruit allergy are cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, and troubled breathing.
· Bananas can sometimes cause anaphylaxis in some people
· Citrus fruits are known as nutritious foods which are rich in Vitamin C. But for some people, citrus fruits can lead to adverse allergic reactions. Citrus allergy is basically the reaction caused due to specific types of proteins present in these fruits. The symptoms of citrus fruit allergy vary from person to person.
· People with pollen allergy sometimes may feel unexpected symptoms by eating raw exotic fruits.
How to Manage Fruit Allergy?
· According to research, allergic reactions occur when the fruits are raw. Once these fruits are cooked, canned, processed, or baked, these allergic effects are reduced to some extent.
· It can be possible that one who has allergic reaction with fresh apples, can easily tolerate eating apple jelly, apple sauce, apple juice, apple pie, and dried apples.
· Keep in mind that most allergenic part of the fruit is its skin and it is not because of pesticides, chemicals, or wax used on surface of these fruits. If you peel of the fruit skin, you will find no trouble in eating the flesh of the fruits.
· The ripeness of the fruit can also become allergenic sometimes
· Sometimes, eating partially ripe fruits pulled out directly from the tree can result in milder allergies.
· If allergic reactions occur, antihistamine can be used to reduce symptoms. In case of severe symptoms, immunotherapy may be recommended by the doctors.
So the best thing you can do is simply avoid the fruits that give you allergies. You can substitute these fruits with other fruits such as currants, gooseberries, grapes guava, avocado, mango, figs, persimmon, and pomegranates.
You can also take suggestion of your general practitioner or any other healthcare provider to recommend other healthy alternatives.
