  1. The users of heroin enjoy the feeling heroin gives since the pleasurable feeling is instantaneous. The addict does not have to wait long for the high, as he/she takes in heroin the “high” is guaranteed.
  1. Heroin is a very complicated drug to treat because it’s an opioid. The dependency of the opioid is harsh to conquer. The function of an opioid as it enters the person’s body is to stimulate the central nervous system. Heroin triggers the nervous system in an individual generating false feeling of bliss.

Heroin addiction detox:

  1. For complete detoxification from heroin, the drug has to be completely removed from the nervous system. One has to remember that heroin treatment is quite mental in nature.
  1. While on the detox program, the addict has to live in complete privacy and seclusion. The addict has to be kept away from any sort of memory that triggers that they were addicted to a substance. In severe cases the addicts have to stay away from friends and family.

Heroin withdrawal symptoms:

  1. When an addict is kept away from the drug, he/she would experience severe withdrawal symptoms such as: diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, tremors, disorientation and tremendous sweating. During the withdrawal phase the craving for the drug is known to be quite intense.

Medications administered for heroin detox are:

  1. For heroin detoxification the medications used are methadone and buprenorphine. Both the drugs methadone and buprenorphine are opioids just like heroin. Though these medicines are opioids the removal of these drugs from an addicts system are much easier than heroin.

2.      After administering methadone and buprenorphine, the yearning for heroin is automatically lessened and soon after the medication is also reduced and later stopped.

3.      Out of both the drugs methadone and buprenorphine, buprenorphine is a preferred drug since is dependency is not much. Methadone is known to be quite habit forming and addictive in nature. Methadone is has been found to interact with other drugs. Buprenorphine does not interfere with other prescription drugs in the system.

4.      Till the yearning and dependency for heroin comes to nil, the medication can be administered but shouldn’t be administered for a long duration.

It is always better to get proper treatment for heroin addiction, since heroin itself as it enters the body, creates a craving for itself in the centers of the brain. One can free oneself from the shadow of heroin with determination along with medication.
