Heroin is an extremely popular and widely used drug all over the world. Heroin is easily available since it is processed from morphine which is naturally occurring, from seedpod of various poppy plants. This drug is highly addictive with its craving always on a constant rise. The cravings for heroin are extremely high with higher withdrawal symptoms while wanting to quit heroin.
Heroin is also popularly known as: Brown Sugar, Horse, Mud, Black Tar, Junk, Smack, Dope and Big H.
Heroin is generally smoked, sniffed or injected. Heroin can be smoked or injected as often as one desires. This drug causes a feel good factor in the brain, which makes one want it even more and more often.
Some symptoms of heroin addiction which can be seen in an addict are as under:
Heroin affects the brain: Heroin is known to have a strong affect on the brain. This drug has a quick affect on the brain as it enters at a fast rate and hampers thinking process, memory and reaction time. It brings about molecular and neurochemical changes in the brain.
Causes a rush: When the addict person inhales heroin, he/she feels a pleasurable sensation in the mind. This rush causes flushing of the skin, dullness, shallow breathing, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, heavy feeling in extremities, and the want to vomit and itching.
Drowsiness: An addict feels drowsy as far as the initial effect is concerned. The mental function in the brain is hampered as heroin has an effect on the central nervous system. An addict can sometimes also exhibit euphoria, shallow respiration, constricted pupils and impaired mental functioning.
Medical consequences: Bacterial infections of the blood vessels and heart valves, abscesses or boils, pulmonary infections, collapsed veins, cellulites, liver or kidney disease, soft-tissue infections. HIV, hepatitis B and C and various other blood-borne viruses are known to get passed on when infected needles or commodities are shared.
Effects of Heroin: Heroin when taken often and when it becomes habitual it has a gloomy effect on the central nervous system and one would develop tolerance towards the drug, this in turn increases the dosage and leads to being fatal.
Heroin addiction or any sort of drug addiction is termed as a chronic and relapsing disease. Heroin when taken on regular basis is fatal and has a disastrous effect on ones life and family.
De-addict yourself from Heroin: One can free oneself from heroin with self help measures such as de-addiction exercises, meditation or any other pleasing activity which helps keep the mind engaged and not abandoned.
You must be inclined towards the subject you choose instead of your addiction. Some activities which are pleasing and calming to the mind are: gardening, reading spiritual and brain soothing books. The activity one chooses entirely depends on ones inclination towards the subject.
Heroin addiction can be cured when treated on time. Treatment in regard to drug addiction should not be delayed at any cost. A combined effort on the part of the entire family, patient, physician and society is required to treat heroin addiction.
