Signs of Cocaine Addiction and its Treatment

Cocaine is categorised as a drug, which is highly addictive and strong. Cocaine addiction leads to a lot of physical and mental abnormality in an addict. This drug has such mental effect on the addict, that the addict feels much better with the presence of the drug. Cocaine works by interfering with the neurotransmitters, serotonin and dopamine.
Cocaine addiction-
- Cocaine has the capability of changing the thought process, action and feelings in an addict.
- Cocaine enslavement is so strong that the craving for the drug makes the addict perform illegal activities such as stealing to obtain the drug.
- The pleasurable feeling with cocaine has a short lasting time it makes the addict take in more of the drug at frequent intervals.
Signs of cocaine addiction in a person are as follows-
- Physical aberration due to cocaine: An addict looses sense of smell because cocaine leads to sensory nerve disintegration, chest pain, rapid heart beat, blurred vision, vertigo, nervousness, seizure, stomach cramps, fever, seizure, dilated pupils, mood swings, weight loss and complicatedness in concentration and thinking.
- Cocaine abuse causes nose bleed: Nose bleed can be seen in individuals who inhale cocaine. Cocaine use also causes excitement, increased mental alertness, hallucination and euphoria. Cardiac and respiratory distress is also caused due to cocaine usage.
- Over dosage of cocaine causes disorders: Over dosage of cocaine produces seizure, restlessness, respiratory and cardiac failure, hallucination and ultimately death.
- Cocaine abuse causes diseases: Cocaine users fall prey to complicated diseases such as eczema, hepatitis and HIV. Cocaine has also shown to complicate existent diseases and also make treatment tough.
- Withdrawal symptoms which can be seen in an addict are: Lack of interest, lack of energy, trembling, paranoia, anxiety, sweating, muscular aches and depression.
Cocaine addiction treatment:
Treatment for cocaine addiction should be at the earliest, because addicts all through their addiction feel satisfied and happy. The treatment for cocaine addiction has to be given an individual approach. Different treatments would suit different addicts.
Some of the treatments for cocaine addiction are as under:
- Detoxification treatment: During the entire duration of addiction, the addict is completely dependent on the drug. The addict is so used to the intake of the drug, that even thinking of being away from the drug produces withdrawal symptoms. During detoxification the addict is forcibly kept in an area where cocaine would not be available. Cocaine detoxification takes place with the assistance of a medical supervisor. Medication is administered to the addict to counter the physical illness which is produced by the drug.
- Physical/ bodily treatment: In general physical treatment takes place in a rehabilitation center. Since cocaine brings about physical changes in an addict, at the center the addict in made to indulge in recreational activities such as swimming and walking. The addict at the rehab center is given a healthy diet and is made to opt for sports that would take the mind off cocaine.
One should always remember along with medicinal treatments, the problem of cocaine addiction can be conquered when an addict is strong willed and determined.
