Acne or pimple breakouts are common skin conditions that affect mostly young people of 15-25 years. 90% of the people are known to be affected by acne, mostly teenagers. After facing the trauma of pimple outbreaks, teenagers are left with the question: what is best for acne?
Acne is caused by clogging of pores on the skin by sebum which has been produced by the body in excess. Thus, the trick is to:
· absorb excess production of oil from the skin
· to keep our pores clean.
Another way of tackling acne inflammation is to dry up the papule and target the bacteria which cause infection in the pores.
How to get rid of acne?
· Wash your face twice daily preferably with a medicated soap containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.
· It is advisable not to touch our face to prevent dirt from reaching the skin which also stimulates acne outbreak.
· Zinc and vitamins are found to be effective in keeping our skin healthy and free from blemishes. Hence, one can take zinc and vitamin supplements after consulting with the doctor.
· One must not pinch or squeeze the acne. This would only spread the infection above and below the skin surface. Moreover, squeezing a pimple leaves scars on the skin which is more difficult to remove.
· A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables helps in supplementing the body with essential minerals which keeps the skin glowing.
· Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. This would flush out the toxins from the system and keeps the skin acne-free.
Treating acne
- If your skin is acne-prone, it is better to avoid oil-based make-up or oily creams which leave a thick residue on the surface and even clogs the pores. Instead, one must use water-based cosmetics and oil-free moisturizers.
- Make a paste of baking soda with water and apply on the scars of the acne. Leave it overnight and wash in the morning. This would lighten the scars of acne completely.
- Topical application of skin creams such as Acnezine, Proactive etc are known to not only cure acne but also prevent occurrence of new ones.
- Steam the face twice in a week so that the pores of the skin get open and all the excess oil gets washed away. Apply a gentle scrub afterwards and leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash off the scrub with cold water which would also close the pores.
- Face packs, especially mud packs are effective in absorbing excess oil from the skin. These packs also prevent white heads and black head formation.
