Acne vulgaris is the common name for acne. This is a skin disorder that is triggered due to hormone called androgen. Acne manifests itself in various forms. It mainly occurs on face, neck, upper back, shoulder, and chest. There are various types of acne depending on the severity and symptoms.

Acne is basically caused by the hormone androgen. These hormones result in excessive production of sebum or an oily substance. The sebum blocks the hair follicles of the skin and clogs the pores. Due to clogged pores the dirt and dust gets trapped on the skin causing eruptions known as acne.

Acne is a common feature during teenage because androgens are produced in plenty during puberty. Acne occurs in adults too due to hormonal imbalance. The main trigger of acne is hormone although it is aggravated by various other factors like inflammation of skin, lack of hygiene, unhealthy eating habits, stress, emotional imbalance, and so on.

Acne occurs in a number of varieties. It ranges from mild to severe. Mild acne is limited to whiteheads and blackheads. While severe acne becomes so acute that it disfigures the face with pus formations, uneven eruptions, redness, and inflammation.

Let’s see the various types of acne that have been distinguished by dermatologists:

Whiteheads: Whiteheads occur when the pores of the skin are completely blocked. There is lots of bacteria and sebum trapped inside the pores. Sometimes whiteheads are clearly visible and in other cases they can only be seen with lenses. When the trapped bacteria and sebum spills out it grows into cyst or nodule which is a more severe form of acne. People suffering from whiteheads can control the problem by washing the face with benzoyl peroxide and maintaining a cleanliness regimen.

Blackheads: In blackheads the trapped bacteria and sebum partially gets spilled over the surface of the skin. Blackheads do not have sharp pointed heads like whiteheads but are black in color. They become black due to reaction with melanin which is already a component of skin. Blackheads need to be cleared properly and stay a little while on the skin.

Papules: Papules cause redness and swollen bumps that have no heads. Papules cause inflammation. It is advisable not to squeeze the papules because it can aggravate the problem and cause scarring.

Pustules: A pustule is an enlarged form of whitehead. While in whitehead the bumps are smaller and not inflamed, pustules are inflamed, painful, and red high bumps.

Nodules: Nodules are a slightly severe in nature. It occurs deep within the skin. Nodules are hard bumps that infect the area around. Clearing the infection properly is important in the case of nodules because it is deep within the skin and cause severe scarring.

Cysts: Cysts are the ultimate form of acne one can have. Cysts are filled with pus and are very painful. One has the urge to squeeze cysts and take out the pus but this can be fatal for the skin as it can result in deep scars that may stay for a lifetime. Proper treatment of cysts is required in consultation with a dermatologist.

While the milder forms of acne like whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples can be controlled by simple medication and a proper cleanliness regime, severe acne like nodules and cysts should be treated properly with the help of antibiotics, accutane and such. To avoid long term effects of the medicine herbal natural treatment can also be opted.

Depending on the type of acne the dermatologist suggests the remedy. The only thing to take care of is to avoid hard medication that harms the skin in long run. There are a variety of treatment solutions available in the market. You are recommended to go for effective acne treatment oils like Acnezine that are free from harmful side effects
