How to Treat Acne

Acne is known to affect 90% of the people especially in the age groups of 15-25 years across national and geographical boundaries! Often, young people are found despairing about how to treat acne and the ways of getting rid of acne or pimple.

  • The first and foremost thing to remember about acne is that it takes time. The entire process of healing the pimple breakouts and repair of the skin takes some time. One must have patience and follow a regimen with diligence.
  • Medicines for treating acne
    1. Topical application of creams such as Acnezine has been found to not only remove acne, but also are effective in removing the blemishes, recurrence of pimples.
    2. One can use over-the-counter creams which contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These creams are quite successful in reducing acne by first drying them up and lightening the blemishes also. The popular brands that are sold for acne treatment are: Ultra Clearasil, Proactive, Accutane etc.
  • Home remedies to treat acne
    1. Mix cinnamon powder and rosewater and apply the paste on the acne and also on the acne prone areas. Leave on overnight and wash off with cold water. This has been found to be effective in removing acne.
    2. Apply a mixture of lemon juice and rosewater on the acne and pimple prone areas. This has been found to be very effective in treating acne.
    3. Rub garlic on the face and on the acne several times a day to get rid of acne.
    4. Make a paste of fenugreek leaves and apply on the face and pimples overnight to make the skin smoother and blemish-free.
    5. Mix baking soda with water and apply on the face like a pack. Wash off after 15-20 minutes. Baking soda dries up the skin by absorbing the excess oil and reduces the attack of acne.
  • Herbal treatment of acne
    1. Many face-packs containing tea-tree oil are now-a-days available in the market. Tea-tree oil is known to have antibacterial properties and is much gentler on the skin.
    2. Aroma therapy is also known to effectively reduce the outbreak of pimples or acne.
    3. Homeopathy is also known to have acne treating and preventing methods.
  • Laser treatments

Laser treatment for acne is found to be very effective in treating scars, especially. In acne affecting the back, laser treatment is carried out by dermatologists.

  • Chemical peeling

Glycolic acid and other chemicals are used by dermatologists to loosen up the whiteheads, blackheads and even minimize papule.

Treating acne scars is an important part of skin care. The various treatments mentioned above (except homemade remedies) should be taken under medical supervision and after consultation with a dermatologist.
