How to Avoid Getting Acne

If you are between the age groups 15-25 years, you are mot likely to have been hit by the pimple problem unless you are plain lucky! 90% of people today have had acne, zits or breakouts or pimples sometime in their life. And that’s one of the reasons that we often find ourselves asking: how to avoid getting acne?
- Avoid touching your face. We often transfer oil and dirt onto our pores and get acne.
- It is advisable to keep oneself rehydrated by consuming 2 liters of water daily. This method helps in removing toxins and keeps our skin glowing.
- Avoid your hair falling on your face. The excess oil in the hair often causes break-outs. One may tie the hair behind or tie the hair back with useful accessories.
- Acne is best avoided if the skin pores are not blocked with oil and dirt. Hence, it is advisable to wash the face with medicated soap or face wash meant for acne, but not more than twice. Excess washing of the face only ends up drying the face and hence, overproduction of sebum takes place.
- Use make-up and other skin care products which are oil-free and of good quality. Always remove make-up before hitting the bed. It is often seen that people sleep with their make-up on and end up getting more pimples.
- Exfoliate to avoid getting acne. Use a good quality scrub twice in a week to remove the dead skin cells and excess sebum that often clog your skin pores. Excessive scrubbing is again to be avoided. It would only make your skin drier.
- What over-the-counter creams to use to avoid acne?
OTC creams which contain salicylic acid or benzyl peroxides can be applied in the pimple-prone areas to avoid a fresh onslaught of pimples. There are excellent topical creams which can be applied on the pimple-prone areas and they are found to be preventing new onslaught of acne also.
Home-made remedies to avoid getting acne:
- Honey and lemon juice are found to be extremely effective in preventing pimples and even whiteheads and blackheads. Mix equal portions of honey and lemon juice and apply on the face. Wash after 20 minutes. The astringent and moisturizing properties of honey and lemon juice help in
- Boil a handful of neem leaves in water and strain it. One can use this water to wash the face and is found effective in avoiding pimples.
- Face packs or mud packs are effective in handling pimple-prone skin. One can make a paste of fuller’s earth and rose water. Apply this on the face and wash after 20 minutes. This pack absorbs the excess oil and rosewater cleans up the pores.
