Body acne is nothing different from acne other than it occurs on back, shoulder, neck, and arms of the person. Acne which does not occur on face but on other parts of the body is known as body acne. Body acne treatment is not much different from facial acne treatment but body acne needs different set of care and precautions.
The cause of body acne is same as facial acne. It is caused by excessive production of sebum that clogs the pores of the skin and results in outbreak of acne. Sebum is an oily substance that is produced by sebaceous gland. During puberty when androgen hormones are released in the body it activates the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum thus resulting in acne. A lot of teenagers as well as adults suffer from acne. While teenagers suffer from acne due to natural growth process adults suffer from acne due to hormonal imbalance.
Acne primarily occurs on the face but in severe cases it spreads to the upper back area, arms, shoulders, and neck. Sometimes it also occurs on the scalp. Adults, teenagers, men and women all suffer from body acne. It is seen that body acne especially troubles adult men.
Apart from body acne treatment one should also exercise a few precautions to control acne:
- Do not let sweat remain on your body for long. Take quick shower after exercise or any physical exertion.
- Wear a fabric that lets your skin breathe. Wearing synthetic fabrics can create more inflammation and burning sensation.
- Do not let your back or shoulder rub hard into something like heavy bag pack or rugged jacket.
- To control or avoid body acne one should avoid heavy physical exercise that results in sweating.
It is seen that while people pay a lot of attention to facial acne, body acne treatment is generally neglected. Facial acne being more visible people try their best to avoid it and use proper medication. Body acne also pricks, causes inflammation, and are filled with pus in severe cases. It is definitely important to treat body acne in a proper manner.
Herbal natural treatments are best to treat body acne because one is not in a hurry to treat this type of acne. Herbal natural treatment works slowly but does not have any long term effects. This type of medication is safe and natural.
Normally the medicine that is used for treating body acne is same as facial acne. Antibiotics, accutane, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc are common treatments for body acne. It is easier to apply cream or ointment on neck and shoulder, medicinal baths are generally prescribed to treat acne at the back.
Other important thing to note is that treatment for body acne is different from facial acne. No medication should be used to treat the vice versa. Medicines for both the problems are different in potency and composition and thus should be used only according to medical consultation.
Body acne treatment in severe cases should be done with proper advice of dermatologist. If left unattended the body acne can grow in pus-filled bacterial infection.
There are several medicines available in the market for treating facial acne. Acnezine is an effective antioxidant that would keep your face free from development of any form of acne.
