Acne scar treatment allows a person affected by acne to be able to get rid of acne and pimple marks. One must remember that treatment of ace scars is possible only in those cases where no new acne out break is occurring in the skin and the person is leading relatively acne free days! Most of the below mentioned acne treatments are combined together to give a clearer skin.

Types of acne scar removal treatment

  • Dermabrasion: In patients with shallow imperfections, this treatment method id used where the doctor runs fine machines on the skin which have diamond edged fast rotating wheels. The skin is hence, scraped off and after a couple of weeks, new clean skin is found to grow in its place.
  • Laser Resurfacing: This is again a method to remove acne scars. Here, laser rays are used to remove the layers of skin so that clearer acne free skin emerges after some time. Laser rays are more effective as the amount of laser used to penetrate the skin can be controlled. However, laser resurfacing treatment is still being studied and more research needs to be carried out to determine its effectiveness. However, the entire healing process may take 20 days. The color of the skin may remain pink for quite some days after laser therapy. The doctor may ask the patient to apply a healing cream and bandage the area for a week or so.
  • Chemical peels: many saloons and beauticians offer chemical peels using natural acids such as glycolic acids. These acids remove the top most layer of the skin and allow the growth of a fresh new skin. This technique is most effective in acne scars which are very light. The entire procedure involves keeping the pack on the face for 15 minutes. Then the pack is washed off. Healing of the skin may take a fortnight.
  • Punch technique: Punch grafting is carried out where skin grafts behind the ear are removed and grafted on the acne scar. In several cases, the acne scar is removed through grafting and allowed to heal. In such procedures it may take a fortnight to heal the skin.
  • Subcision: In this technique, the acne scar is surgically removed from the skin, and the bruise is left open in a pool of blood. This allows formation of new tissues and slow healing of the skin takes place. Generally subcision is followed by dermabrasion or laser treatment.
  • Natural remedies and some acne controlling creams are also seen to be effective in lightening acne scars. Such pimple creams not only reduce the recurrence of new acne but also effectively lighten the scars left by acne.
