Acne remedies are the most sought after treatments where skin care is involved. Pimple breakouts affect more than 90% of people and there is not a person who has not had acne or pimples in their lives. Very few lucky ones escape from hormonal imbalances that eventually lead to acne.

Acne remedies can be divided into home-made or natural remedies or chemical treatments of acne. They have been summarized below:

Natural remedies for acne or home-made acne remedies.

  1. One of the most successful natural remedies for acne is baking soda. Mix baking soda with water and apply on the face, neck, chest and back (wherever there are acne attacks). Wash off this mixture after 15 minutes. Pimples are known to dry away and this is an easy chemical free method of controlling pimples.
  2. Mix lemon juice with honey, glycerin and rose water. Apply on the face and keep on 30 minutes. The astringent properties of lemon juice and anti-bacterial action of honey clears up the acne, controls blackheads and whiteheads.
  3. Make a mixture of tomato juice and lemon juice. Apply on the face, especially where there are acne break-outs. Tomato juice is an excellent toner and lemon is a good astringent. They help in controlling acne effectively.
  4. Papaya is an effective acne controller. Blend papaya and honey together. Massage the mixture on the face and leave it on for 30 minutes. This mask effectively dries up the acne and controls new acne break-out.
  5. Mud packs and packs made of fuller’s earth, lemon juice and rose water are effective in absorbing the excess sebum from the face.
  6. Try rubbing garlic juice on your acne and sleep overnight. This effectively absorbs the sebum and dries up the acne.
  7. Apply a paste of fenugreek leaves and leave on the face for 30 minutes. Wash it off for a clearer acne free skin.

Pimple treatment

  1. Pimples can be effectively treated by application of acne gels that not only reduce pimple break-outs but also lighten the blemishes.
  2. There are several over-the-counter creams which contain salicylic acids and benzoyl peroxides that are known to be extremely effective in drying up acne and clearing the skin. However, it is advisable to use oil-free moisturizers on the skin whenever such pimple creams are applied as they have a tendency to dry up the skin and cause peeling.
  3. It is observed that excess consumption of milk, poultry, sugars etc triggers acne outbreaks. Controlling these items in the diet is effective in treating acne.
  4. Deficiency of zinc, vitamin A is also known to cause acne outbreak. Zinc capsules and chelating-zinc supplements can be taken orally and are known to effectively control the acne outbreaks.
  5. Steam your face for 5 minutes so that the skin pores are open. Pat your face dry. Now splash cold water on the face so that the pores tightly close up. Pat the face to dry out the face. This may be followed up with a home-made remedy of applying a mudpack so that all the excess sebum is absorbed away.
