Break-out on the back or acne on back are caused due to the same reason that causes acne on the face or chest or any other part of the body. Acne on back is also called as: bacne and it is cause by clogging of the skin pores by sebum and dead cells. This pore then gets inflamed by white blood cells and infection of skin bacteria.

What causes acne on back?

Acne on the back is mostly caused by wearing tight fitting clothes which just irritate the skin on the back. The pimples begin to emerge on the back and can be accidentally rubbed by the clothes which further spread the infection across the back!

How to control back acne?

The actual reason which triggers acne on back is not really known. Why does excess sebum get produced at all? Scientists speculate that the imbalance in the hormonal level that triggers sebum production can be due to genetic changes, stress, eating fried-foods etc. But the question remains as how to control acne on back. The following steps can be followed to effectively treat acne on back:

  • It is advisable to use medicated acne body washes which contain benzoyl peroxides or salicylic acids that help in drying up the acne and heal them.
  • One can soak a handful of neem leaves in the bucket of water used for taking bath. This is a natural acne body wash which effectively cleanses the back and rest of the body of any excess sebum or oil.
  • Application of over-the-counter acne products such as Ultra Clearsil, Pro Activ, Acnezine etc on the zits and the acne-prone area is also very effective in controlling acne and even healing acne on the back.
  • Using a gentle scrub or exfoliator on the back can also remove the dead cells that might be clogging the skin pores on the back. You may use an oatmeal scrub which can be made by mixing oatmeal with yoghurt on the back. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then gently moisten the back and rub it removing the oatmeal. Follow it up with application of an acne cream. This is found to reduce acne on back to a large extent.

Treating back acne in the same way as the face acne is a little difficult because it is hard to reach the back for application of cream or to even scrub it. It is advisable to use a back brush for this purpose. All these skin care regimens must be coupled with drinking plenty of water and consuming healthy fruits, vegetables and having a balanced diet.
