Acne is one of the most common skin conditions which affects 90% of the people, sometime or the other, especially in the ages between 15-25 years. As a result of acne, young people are found despairing to clear up their skins and refine their skin pores. A vast range of products flood the market today and the most common one to treat acne are acne face washes.
How does acne face wash work?
Acne is caused when the skin pores get clogged by sebum/oil along with dead skin cells. When this pore gets inflamed, this skin condition is called a pimple, which may soon have pus on its tip, called then a pustule. Thus, the best form of treating acne is to cleanse the skin properly.
- Face washes are medicated gels that contain salicylic acids or benzoyl peroxides that have the properties of drying up the acne, absorb the excess oil and hence, treat the acne.
- Using acne face washes on pimple-prone areas can prevent further outbreak of pimples.
- Acne face washes must not be used more than twice in a day. Excessive cleansing of the face is known to dry the skin, which in turn causes more production of sebum.
- One must first identify the skin type that one has. If the skin is oily, it is prescribed to use “dermatologically-tested” acne face wash meant for oily skin. This product would evenly absorb the excess oil and not disturb the balance of the skin.
- For combination skins, where the cheeks are drier and the nose-chin are oily, face washes for acne should be judiciously selected. Otherwise, the cheeks would have more breakouts due to excessive drying. Thus, wisely select the acne face wash which must suit the skin type you have.
- A wide range of pimple treatment gels and creams are available which can be applied after using acne face washes. Acnezine, ProActiv, Ultra Clearsil etc have been found to be very effective in controlling acne.
Herbal acne face washes
- Now-a-days, fruit based face washes are also available which specially target the acne prone skins. Papaya based face washes can also be used to control acne.
- Tea tree oil is another important ingredient found in some of the herbal acne face washes. It is found to be as effective as benzoyl peroxide in treating acne and even preventing occurrence of newer acne.
It is to be remembered that if an acne face wash dries up the skin or peels it up, then it is advisable to reduce the frequency of its application. You may wash your face with the medicated acne face wash once in a day and follow up with an oil-free moisturiser to soften your skin.
