Acne affects a wide range of people. More than 90% of the people get acne and in the age-groups between 15 years ad 25 years, this skin condition is most common. People battling acne outbreaks often consider that the food we eat make a lot of impact on the acne break-outs. Certain foods such as garlic, eggs, cheese etc are known to irritate the sebaceous glands of the skin, making it oilier and causing pimples. Yet this is seen to happen to some people and yet, not to affect many at all. Thus, acne and diet are one of the most debatable issues.

Diet that causes acne

It was earlier believed that eating oily stuff and fries, makes you break-out very often. However, this is confirmed to be not entirely true. It is now confirmed that people may be allergic to certain foods and have a tendency to break out after consuming them. One must be able to identify the causal food which has caused a person to have a break-out. This is a more prudent choice than completely cutting down on chocolates, fries and ice-creams. But there are some foods which are known to aggravate acne. They are:

  • Dietary milk products and red meats

In many cases, milk is found to be a major cause in aggravating acne. Replacing buffalo milk with goat’s milk is found to be an effective way of reducing acne break-outs. Similarly, consumption of red meats has been found to trigger acne breakouts.

  • Nuts

Certain nuts such as pastas, walnuts etc are known to aggravate acne in some people. It is advisable to avoid these foods that cause acne flare-ups.

  • Fats

High amount of Trans fats, butters are not only harmful for overall health of the individual, but they are also known to affect the trigger acne outbreak among people.

  • Processed food

Certain processed foods put a lot of load on the liver of the body; in turn stimulating it to release toxins which are secreted out of the skin. The skin may then end up having pimples.

The exact relation between diet and acne is not clear. But what is very clear that a good diet definitely improves the texture of the skin and stimulates healthy circulation of blood.

Food and acne

  • A diet rich in anti-oxidants helps in removing of free radicals from the blood which have been found to cause pimples and zits. These antioxidants are abundantly found in citrus fruits, papayas, green tea etc.
  • It is advisable to consume a bowl of fresh salad comprising cucumbers, avocados, tomatoes etc. salads must be thoroughly cleaned before consuming.
  • A diet free from starchy sugars, refined sugars and processed foods are known to control acne.
